Based on the first game - a tough 14-12 loss to #2 ranked ND at ND -it looks to be a good season for the Hoyas. Very tough schedule, which may make reaching the playoffs pretty difficult.

What is going on with the women's team--pretty disastrous opening for them.

I just wanted to give some deserved attention to the Men's team. They're on a run of beating a some pretty competitive teams, with a close loss to No. 6 Duke mixed in. www.ncaa.com/rankings/lacrosse-men/d1/inside-lacrosseThey've got a good opportunity to go in and get a great conference with at No.5 Denver this weekend.

Entered the top 20 with a 14 ranking. Couple big wins over Loyola and then no. 9 Marquette. Getting some good press as an up and coming young team and coaching staff. Denver will be very very tough.

Good to see the men's lax team getting on track. Took a while, but Coach Warne has his guys now and we're playing a fast and aggressive style. Gotten great goalie play from a freshman so far as well, which bodes well long term. Winning at Denver will be tough, but we've played Duke and ND very close so we're capable of running with anyone.

Well - crushed by Denver 19-7. A tough road game. Erase it quickly and focus on the next one.

Playing Denver for that championship. Besides the Denver loss, the other losses have had 2-3 point differences. Hopefully we do better in this game. If you are in Philly, you have to go. I think the last time we were even close to something like this was 2007.

Looks like we're a bubble team for the NCAA Tournament if we lose to Denver. Good Strength of Schedule, but though we played several top teams very close, we don't have any high quality wins. The NCAA committee in lacrosse is bizarre, so it's tough to predict anything except they will put Hopkins in the tournament regardless of how deserving they are. We're probably outside looking in unless we can beat Denver. Go Hoyas!
Glad we're getting back to being competitive. Hopefully we can take the next step to being really good, which is what we should be in lacrosse.

Denver. Classic Big East rival. Insightful comment as usual.

They're #16 in the RPI. We also beat #20 in the RPI Loyola MD who was ranked

Another year, another missed NCAA tournament. Eight straight.
(We now return you to the basketball recruiting threads....)

DFW's typical doom and gloom aside, some real bright spots this season after a very rough stretch for the program. We lose some productive seniors, but return a lot of talent as well. We have what appears to be the first stud goalie we've had in a long time and he's a freshman. We played some top teams very competitively but just couldn't quite get that one more win we needed. Coach Warne has us back on the right track, and playing a more exciting and aggressive style that he was billed as bringing with him. Something to build off.

It's not doom and gloom--this team had a good run but strength of schedule really hurt them, and that's a result of the Big East teams. Eight years is too long for this program to be an also-ran.

It wasn't SOS at all. It was lack of quality wins. Georgetown's SOS was 7! 7! Get your facts straight. We were 12th in the RPI. It had nothing to do with the BE. It was the fact that we failed to win enough big games.

The Big East conference was sufficiently weak that none of the wins in-conference were in the "big games" the committee wanted to see. And a 0-6 non-conference mark vs the Top 20 didn't help.

Wait, so you're saying we needed to WIN some games against our top tier non-conference opponents? Let's alert Coach Warne immediately. They did a fine job scheduling this year, and just couldn't get the ONE win against UVA, Duke, ND, Denver (x2), or Towson that would have meant dancing. They came close in a bunch of those games, but that's how it goes. After several years of being totally irrelevant in the watered down Big East, disappointed to be one of the last teams out, but we're happy to have a better year with major contributions from the freshman class on which to build. Mens Lacrosse is a program that with our location, reputation, and academics should be nationally competitive, as we were for a stretch under Urick. Hoping this year suggests we're building towards that again.

Yeah, it really came down to no big wins. Bummer. Played ND, Duke and UVa really tough, but just couldn't match up with Denver. Also a bad break that Hopkins got the automatic qualifier, since that took a spot.
OSU and Brown were borderline picks. OSU got in bc they had a couple big wins. Brown is more of a head-scratcher - only big win was Cornell that I can see.
