Problem in this game was almost 20 turnovers and 13/24 from the line. Most of these turnovers were in the first half and unforced. Jabril tried to drive every time he touched the ball and turned it over 6 times including 2-3 travels. I understand that he was trying to make something happen in this stagnant offense, but we need to run some plays to get our best player (DSR) open when we are in a scoring drought.
Also, we missed 26 shots but only got 3 offensive rebounds. Thats far below our season average.

But the question with regard to last night - what do you do when Stainbrook and Reynolds are both in? White just cannot guard that spot right now, nor can Copeland. And neither one gave us much more than Hopkins last night at the other end. I'd have to go back and watch the game again to be 100% sure but I don't think Stainbrook & Reynolds played together last night, if they did it was very little. The box score has Stainbrook with 26 minutes and Reynolds with 14.. Pretty sure the split the center time.. Mack had them going small a lot last night..

The difference was: 1. the excessive turnovers -- many unforced, and 2. the poor FT shooting. The lesson is that you cannot defeat a top 35 RPI team in a conference in which each team has the other well-scouted with high TOs and poor FT shooting.
We have improved in both area in our win streak after the Providence game so we can be good in these areas. This was just an all-around subpar performance.

According to the play-by-play breakdown at guhoyas.com, Stainbrook and Reynolds did not play together at all in last night's game. Stainbrook was substituted out in favor of Reynolds on all but two occasions (at the end of each half, when Stainbrook was replaced by Sean O'Mara for a total of 31 seconds).

contrary to many negatives from these match-ups against xavier, i like them because these are the type of teams that bounce us out from the tourney.
JT3 really needs to figure out how to beat these guys. Once he does so, i'd say our curse of tourney stops

I thought I saw them both in at one point, but it may have been the part of the game where Xavier deemed to have 7 or 8 guys on the floor at a time!

When FS1 cut to Xavier's huddle, Mack referred to his defensive stops as "kills". Kind of gives some context to Tu Holloway's, "zip em up" quote. I found it vaguely off-putting. Meanwhile, Georgetown teaches about the deflated basketball.
Oh well, Xavier played really well and I am impressed with their team. Mack wins the on court coaching battle but I can't help but think of him as the evil sensei in Karate Kid. I hope the teams meet in the BE tourney.
