I think we match up pretty well with Kansas. I don't see Ellis guarding Josh so maybe Alexander. Either way I smell the potential for fouls. Get White on FT line if they go zone and drop down to Josh. They are a really young team outside of Ellis. Our junior and seniors need to grind these guys out. They did very impressively come back against Florida in the second half but that was at home. Would love a pro hoya crowd otherwise we are going to hear that rock chalk bs.

hope the atmosphere at Verizon is strong/loud. game falls on the first day of final exams... I have no faith in our fan base, least of all the students. Obviously it sucks this game is a midweek game and not on a weekend for out of town fans, but still. Any good fan base should have this game at a near sell out. We'll probably only have 12k there. Looks like the the lower bowl is fairly well sold, as are the 424, 425, 426, and 427 section seats (behind the visitors second half basket).

Obviously it sucks this game is a midweek game and not on a weekend for out of town fans, but still. Any good fan base should have this game at a near sell out. We'll probably only have 12k there. Here's the current Ticketmaster map, which shows the tickets still available for purchase if you want an inexact way to estimate: www.ticketmaster.com/event/15004D3AA7A731BFFour seasons ago we did 12,045 on Thursday Dec 22nd against Memphis. Kansas is a higher profile opponent and it's at least during a semester, but our season ticket #s and pull among general fans is down in the past 1.5 years, so based on that and the Ticketmaster map I'd predict something a little north of that, maybe 13,000? ETA: Looks like the the lower bowl is fairly well sold, as are the 424, 425, 426, and 427 section seats (behind the visitors second half basket). Those are the sections reserved for overflow student seating, so they aren't "sold" per se, nor will they likely be full.

Question is who will be the refs for the game? If they are non-conference refs that are prone to call any contact in the post by offensive player an offensive foul then Josh and Hopkins will have a long night. However, if they call a normal BE game where incidental contact is allowed then it should be a good game for both sides. Would you prefer the officials managed by Curtis Shaw or the ones managed by John Cahill? Choices! It'll probably be three dudes from one of these lists: Big XIIBig EastFWIW, in Lawrence last season they were Big East refs.

All I know is if the refs call one of those bogus fouls on Josh like the two in the Florida game, our home fans should go INSANE.

Any word if this is going to be a grey out game? Butler is apparently the gray out game this year (if I recall correctly). You are always welcome to gray out your part of the phone booth.

So do the students not really care about basketball or are not really informed on how good our team is? I know school "should" be the priority but we are good and this is Kansas. The gym should be jumping.

So do the students not really care about basketball or are not really informed on how good our team is? I know school "should" be the priority but we are good and this is Kansas. The gym should be jumping. I went to Georgetown during the Esherick era (1999-2003), so I acknowledge that's not a good barometer of interest, but at the time there were many, many, students who didn't really care about basketball, and would have never gone to a game in the middle of the week, during finals. I would hope that the program's higher level of success would change that to some degree but I am somehow pretty doubtful about that. I'd love to hear from somebody who is on campus now or recently graduated. The problem is that our student body is pretty small. At any college, you are going to have a significant number of students who don't care about basketball. The difference is Kansas is in Lawrence, and the undergraduate student body is about 19,000. Even if 25% of the undergraduate student body was interested in basketball that's 4,750 people with an interest in basketball. And that doesn't account for the fact that Kansas alumni are more likely to be heavily concentrated in or near Lawrence, than Georgetown's are to be in DC. Georgetown's undergraduate student body is 7,636. 25% of that is only 1,909 people (and the 25% figure is probably high - I am guessing the real number of students truly interested enough in basketball to attend games is much lower). When you factor in exams, winter weather, and the fact that students have other interests, it is pretty easy to see why the Verizon center might not fill up. The big question for me is, how many Kansas fans show up? There have to be a bunch in the DC area and games like these do not happen very frequently.

Pretty certain there will be a sizeable Kansas contingent on hand. Hope the locals and students can drown them out!

My abbreviated holiday party will prevent me from getting home to watch this game live, and not sure I want to wait for DVR viewing for this matchup.
Are there still NYC Gamewatch events around (like Village Pourhouse used to host)?

I keep getting emails from Gtown telling me there are seats still available in the 100 section. Unfortunately I live in freaking FL (no offense FLhoya).

If the students can't bother to come out to this game well then I'm completely giving up on them

If the students can't bother to come out to this game well then I'm completely giving up on them I hate when people phrase it like this. I too am disappointed with the overall student turnout thus far, but there are some of us diehards who will be at every game cheering on our Hoyas regardless. Let's not disparage the entire student body when there is at least a certain amount of dedicated fans.

I should have said "If the students other than the 100 who consistently come can't bother to come out to this game well then I'm completely giving up on them". You yourself admit the attendance by the rest of your peers has been really poor. It's sad that I actually have to worry about the turnout tomorrow, but I am with good reason (And thank you for being one of the few that do come out all the time. You and your classmates are really needed)
