Let me say this: just because the guy is out of shape and can't get up the court and is 6'6 doesn't mean he can be a great player. Man I didn't think we would be attacking Ron personally....hahahaaha. ;D

hahahahahahah...good one cambridge...
rdf, the post was meant to illustrate that other schools are interested in the cat, and that nobody he is not just trying to bluff his way to a schollie, as you intimated.
AGAIN, feel how you want to about a player, just don't use bogus crappolla to justify it. in your initial post, you told a poster that if they saw him play, on tv, as you and your friends did, then said poster would not want to him on the squad. underlying that statement is the fact that you were judging your opinion of him, on the singular time you saw him play...an hs all-star game. quite honestly, if you follow alot of basketball, you know a singular all-star game is probably one of the worst places to judge a player. you disagree with that?
you also said he couldn't play for chicago state. no need to comment.
rdf, i dont feel any need to support guys the staff is recruiting, or even looking at. the vast majority of them, i don't even know. in fact, i only really know the local ones. if you don't like a kid, becuase your man told you he wasn't nice...fine. just don't create some hyperbolic pseudo-truth to justify it. say it's based on your man's opinon or whatever. not because he sucked in a specific all-star game, is not being heavily recruited (when in fact he is), and couldn't make chicago state's team. some clowns were saying that jeff green sucked in the cap classic, wasn't heavily recruited (and he really wasn't, not until the very end at least when his eligibilty was in question), and couldn't make maryland's team. don't go out like them.
showcase, mind your business when grown.......no im not going out like that. ill put my dukes down. i probably have been dealing with this board, in some capacity, for what over half a decade. back when sweets was playing in hs, braswell and ap were here, and my man mci would lay down his volumnious rueben for prez posts. in fact, i think i was posting when rueben was in high school (or maybe im just remembering him play against for carroll against forte and bogans, who i believe were dematha sophomores).
im not telling rdf what to do, im telling him i believe he's playing himself on this one.
oh yeah rdf and my man kg....if hatten continues to bust our cans, he may see the league....hahahahahahaha. i know you are hating, but the guy is talented. jt3 and alot of others think so.

oh yeah showcase, you don't even know my position on deandre, now do you? have i shared it with you directly? talk about puffery (you suggesting/advancing that you know, what you don't).
i think he is a low post scorer, that has size and strength, and at the minimum can push our froncourt (something which is definitely needed. izzo practices against roy many times...c'mon). he needs to get into better shape, but is a skilled big man. there is a question of how he does in the high post position in this offense, but he supposedly shoots alot better from the outside than he was allowed to display in high school.
does he have holes in his game? yes. but the program most likely will not be able to recruit those that don't in the near future. and that is especially true for big guys. deandre is probably the second most coveted big guy left, after montross' uche. are you comfortable going into next year, and having jeff and roy grind to a virtual halt again at the end of next year?

A good basketball team has basketball players--not positions. While it's ideal for a team to have a traditional PG, SG, SF, PF, and C, how likely is that in today's game that you can fill those spots with quality players? So to me the idea is to get the BEST PLAYERS available and DeAndre Thomas isn't someone I'd categorize as being qualified to help.
Hoyas aren't good enough to recruit kids for "practice" purposes and not many teams in country are. To do that would be the single dumbest thing I've ever seen but if that's your idea of being worthy of a scholarship, fine by me.
Ron, either read the post or dont' comment. I mentioned that I watched the game, but the people who I talked with on Thomas have SEEN him play in PERSON at VARIOUS EVENTS--Summer Camps, AAU, and HIGH SCHOOL. That's not basing an opinion off of one all star game---it's seeing someone I've been told about and forming my own opinion with some background info from those who know more about his game than I do and sharing it with the board. If you can't figure this out by now after having me post it 4/5 times, then please don't reply.
As for Jeff Green, the guy led his team to a State Championship and was absent from the AAU scene and Summer Camps prior to his SR season so things were quiet on him. Thomas played in numerous events and has been out there for those I know to see/evaluate.
The kid was saying he'd "Visit" Illinois, Kansas, GU, and Florida State. As of now the only program he's scheduled to visit is GU. FSU has "been in touch" in case their primary options fall through and Illinois and KU have no interest and never did--the kid obviously was stretching the truth here or after further evaluation, Kansas decided that he's not good enough for them to offer. I don't know--but it's a FACT it happened that way. Chris Moody, a WALK ON got the scholarship Thomas was telling all the analysts was set aside for him when "it opened up". So someone wasn't honest in this case and by looks of it, I know who I believe.
Marcus Hatten's 5-28 shooting performances might impress some out there, but if that's your idea of a guy who can ball, I rest my case.
I want the best basketball players possible to suit up at GU and I don't care if we have a team made up of all guards and forwards if they can play the game well and make the team competitive. It's much easier to build a team around good perimeter players in today's game (not saying I like that either) then vice versa and rather load up on talent then take marginal players to help fill a role of what a team SHOULD look like in terms of traditional positions.
The team GU has returning has a decent shot of being in top 5 of Big East next year with help from recruits already signed/committed. Would a big help? Sure. But if it comes down to not being able to get one and Hoyas have a choice between Brandon Rush who is same size as DeAndre Thomas but plays SG/SF, I say go with the talent and take Rush. If we can't get Rush, I'd rather hold onto the scholarship and aggressively recruit kids in '06 who at the time 12 of top 100 players list Hoyas and that includes Vernon Macklin and Dajuan Summers who have GU in top 5. TALENT attracts other top players and winning usually happens when teams have more talented players combined with good coaching.
Not much else to say about this but we'll soon find out if Hoyas see Thomas as someone who can help the program as he's supposedly visiting the Campus this weekend. So we very well might be able to find out if he's better than expected. I'm just hoping Hoyas get best player who can help and if that's Thomas who makes me look bad--fine by me. The program's success is most important and certainly more important than my ego/opinion. I'd be doing cartwheels if this kid turned into Craig Smith and surprised.

Now, what was I saying... hahahahahahahahaha.[/'ron]

does 'yo' often creep into your lexicon, or is that an attempt at being condescending or patronizing? i'll put loot on the last two...hahahaha
"...Ron has come down from the Mount to tell us poor non-subscribers the "facts.". this is the statement, that informed my assumption you had in fact intimated that i took a position on thomas, which i had not. i presumed that in a manner similar to that of rdf, you believed i took umbrage (sp?) with his positions. i did not, i have a problem with what he used to come to his conclusions, and to justify them.
if that supposition was erroneous, my bad. but was it?

I find it charming coming from you that my word choice is somehow "an attempt at being condescending or patronizing." The whole point of several contributions on this thread is that your very tone in upbraiding RDF's posts re: Thomas was that it could easily be labeled as condescending/patronizing. And, for the record, I never actually wrote "'...Ron has come down from the Mount to tell us poor non-subscribers the "facts."'" Hoopsmccan offered that nice little turn of phrase, so your supposition is, ultimately, misplaced.

rdf, i always have enjoyed what you have to say. but have or could you voice your opinion to the coaching staff, if they are so off base as to alllow the kid to visit, i am not saying they would necessarily be perfect estimaters of tallent but if they are this far off we are in for some bad days. what do you think.
