Ten teams in the Associated Press Top 25 suffered defeats in the past week: #9 Louisville, #12 North Carolina, #14 Iowa State, #16 Baylor (twice), #17 Oklahoma, #18 Butler, #20 Virginia Commonwealth, #21 West Virginia, #22 Oklahoma State and #23 Ohio State. At most, maybe one new team hits the rankings. . .but probably not.

The only team from the ACC not overrated is pretty much the only one the voters couldn't overrate.

Given the way we've fared when ranked, I'm not particularly disappointed in missing the top 25.

Not that it makes much difference. We need to protect home court this week and move back up.

Big East teams are always going to be underrated by the pollsters, but I am optimistic the Committee will give it what's due, as they did with the Mountain West a couple of years ago (except then all of those teams flamed out).
Unfortunately in a one-and-done situation as we well know anything can happen and it matters more that you are hot at the right time and draw some great matchups than anything else.

I'm not sure that the BE is getting underrated by the Pollsters here. But I do know the ACC is pretty darn overrated.

So back in the rankings for us...but where? Looks like only two of the AP Top 25 are in jeopardy of dropping out; #22 Oklahoma State was defeated by #23 West Virginia (73-63) and #24 Ohio State lost today to Michigan (64-57). Unranked, but with more votes last week than the Hoyas, are Texas, San Diego State, Providence, Murray State and Temple; San Diego State won both games this past week (63-46 over New Mexico and 74-56 over San Jose State), Providence won its only game this past week (84-57 over DePaul) and Murray State won its only game this past week (89-54 over Austin Peay). We will likely overtake Murray State, as well as Texas and Temple, but I think it is more likely that San Diego State and Providence hit the AP Top 25 than we do.

San Diego St. and Providence do seem like the teams poised to make the polls. Providence appeared on 21 ballots last week but ended up with fewer points (44) than San Diego St. (64) which appeared on 19 ballots. Georgetown appeared on only 13 ballots (23 points) by comparison.
