I personally hope he stays in Philly and labors in irrelevance...

Hamels to Red Sox is next for three overrated future flop prospects... Guess not, seeing as the Sox have picked up three starting pitchers since this posting (Masterson, Miley and Porcello). Looks like the Phillies' asking price for Hamels is out of line with what teams are willing to offer right now. Best guess now? Maybe Cincinnati to fill in a slot vacated by Reds' trades of Cueto to Detroit and Latos to Miami. . .maybe the Evil Empire in the Bronx, because they are in desperate need of a starter. . .maybe the Giants for additional starting pitching depth. More likely? He stays in Philadelphia and Ruben Amaro Jr. is job hunting by the All-Star break. Simon to the Tigers, not Cueto. No way the Reds trade Cueto. Next up for the Dodgers - Kershaw to the D-Backs for their number 5 outfielder and a 34 year old minor leaguer.

I lost a part of my childhood tonight. Sources in Chicago are reporting that Mr. Cub, Ernie Banks, has passed away at age 83. As a young Mets fans in 1969, I couldn't stand Ron Santo, Glenn Beckert or (most of all) Jimmy Qualls, but I couldn't help but like Banks; he was the epitome of class. Requiescat in pace, #14.

Many of you probably know that I'm a White Sox fan, so I grew up hating the Cubs. But no one could possibly hate Ernie Banks, a class act through and through. RIP, Mr. Cub.
