The offense wasn't anything to write home about either.

The offense wasn't anything to write home about either. Offense was 44th in efficiency, not great, but not bad. Defense was 107th our worst mark ever, while we've had 2 teams with worse offense than last years including the 2013 BE Championship team.

When your offense frequently hadn't crossed the 20-point threshold at about the six minute mark in the first half then you have a problem. I suppose this will always be the debate among some of us fans; the overall worthiness of the efficiency rating of the Hoyas' offense. I for one think that at times you can hide behind offensive ineptness by slowing down the pace, limiting the possessions and making your numbers technically more efficient. Nonetheless in the end if your offensive attack is still lacking in teeth and you're still plagued by far too many scoring droughts you might as well toss that efficiency rating out of the window as far as I'm concerned. Of course much of that couldn't be helped after the loss of Josh Smith. With an already offensively challenged team following the expulsion of Whittington, the Hoyas could not afford to lose one of its remaining high level offensive weapons, but yet that is exactly what happened when Josh Smith became an academic casualty. To III's credit he made adjustments that allowed for Markel and DSR to rely on their one-on-one capabilities more so than previous backcourts. In other words they weren't simply doing their scoring through three-pointers and backdoor cuts.
Mike DecOurcy had a sobering article in the Sporting News basketball preview about how people associated with the game feel that college basketball just isn't very good these days and that despite all the changes being made to help offenses. The scoring continues to remain woeful. In the case of GU obviously there were some ridiculous scoring they gave up to opponents (like Florida State and Oregon), but arguably many defeats could have been victories if the Hoyas hadn't had such difficulty putting up points.

Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein · 58m Greetings from Georgetown! Here for practice. Is a return trip to the field of 68 in store for the Hoyas in 2015?
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein · 21m Georgetown will need huge freshman years from both Isaac Copeland and L.J. Peak to reach the NCAA Tournament. Two critical, critical pieces.
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein · 20m JT3 told @cbssports this freshmen class has a chance to be as good of a first-year group as he's ever assembled at Georgetown. Talented.
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein · 19m Georgetown sophomore Reggie Cameron told @cbssports he is down to 218 pounds. Was 240 as a freshman. Long range sniper. 6-7.
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein · 17m Early prediction on Georgetown's starting five --- D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, Jabril Trawick, L.J. Peak, Isaac Copeland, Josh Smith….
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein · 15m A big X-Factor for Georgetown? Who provides a lift in reserve. Aaron Bowen, Reggie Cameron, Mikael Hopkins, Paul White all in play.
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein · 12m JT3 stressing two major points of emphasis for Georgetown 1. Transition defense 2. Guarding the 3-point shot #gottodefendbetter
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein · 8m Isaac Copeland is cut from the from the same cloth as the combo forwards that preceded him at Georgetown. 6-9. High IQ. Can pass and shoot.
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein · 4m The biggest thing that stands out from watching Georgetown? Josh Smith's skill level. 300 plus pounds but passes and dribbles like a guard.
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein · 2m L.J. Peak is going to take pressure off D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera. 6-5 freshman should be an immediate offensive factor. Really gets to rim.
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein · 1m For the Big East to be nationally relevant next season, Georgetown has to be an NCAA team. Tough for the conference to thrive otherwise.

Also like his tweet about Georgetown having to be successful for conference to be relevant.

On Josh: Thompson: He has a made a lot of progress both on and off the floor. His body looks as good I've seen it look since high school. Off the court, everything is fine. Now he has to sustain it and he has to maintain it. At this point last year, I felt pretty good about Josh. Now he's got to maintain it. He's still a work in progress but with that being said, there's not too many --- if any --- people in college basketball that offensively on the block can do the things he can do. And he's doing a much better job at working at every other part of the game.

www.csnwashington.com/ncaa/will-hoyas-freshman-see-game-minutes"I really think that practices are going to be fun. Workouts are going to be fun," Thompson recently told CSNwashington.com. "[The players] can sit around and see there is not much [difference in playing level]. We haven't sifted through everything. I don't have in my head starters or rotation or who's going to do what. But everyone is going to have to be ready to play because someone else is sitting there waiting if you don't produce." Copeland (ranked 23 by Rivals) and White (50), a pair of combo forwards, along with the high rising and high scoring Peak (68) have breakout ability, but all five freshman have a shot for minutes. The backup point guard role is available for Campbell. Mourning, the son of former Georgetown great and Basketball Hall of Fame center Alonzo Mourning, provides the frontcourt with a long body and high hoops IQ.
