Not quite Europe, but Emily Infeld will make her 2014 road debut in Santa Cruz, CA at the Wharf to Wharf 6-mile race, which she won last year:
On the women's side, last year's champion Emily Infeld returns, but her fitness remains in question.
"It's been a bit of a roller coaster," the 24-year-old said of the past year. After her Wharf win, she took her momentum to Europe, where she set a monster personal best in the 3,000 meters. But it wasn't long into the fall when a literal pain in her butt was diagnosed as a sacral stress fracture. After five months of convalescing she has resumed training, though she says things aren't what they were in 2013.
"My fitness is kind of a question mark," she said. "I'm not in the type of fitness I was last year, but I'm getting there. I'm going to play it by ear and see how long I can hang for."

Emily finished 4th behind three Kenyans. As first American, she pockets $1000. Good time and effort for her first race back from injury:

Ok, the title of this thread should be summer running, whether in Europe or not. Therefore, I can introduce this other blurb on Andrew Springer:
Andrew ran the fastest mile in the country his senior year of high school (4:02.58) and went on to a decorated career at Georgetown that included multiple Big East Championships and All American accolades. He was a Foot Locker Nationals qualifier and won the Nike Indoor Mile title as a prep. He’ll look to deliver a sub 4 mile on August 1st in Raleigh.
5 Things About Me: Andrew Springer
I grew up in Westerly, Rhode Island where I was a soccer player and a beach bum. I spent 5 short years at Georgetown University, learning a few things but mostly running. My undergrad degree is in physics, and I did a year of grad school in Real Estate. Don’t ask why, I realize that it is a strange combination. I still play Pokemon, I don’t care if its a kids game. I have done many things in less than 4 minutes, including making a breakfast sandwich, showering, clearing 40 lines in tetris, and solving a rubix cube. Unfortunately, running a mile is not yet on the list, and I am hoping to change that in the near future.

Great to see Emily back and running. She just needs to avoid the injury bug that keeps following her around.

That's for sure, sleepy. Second year in a row that she missed most of the track season. When she has come back, she's come back strong on the road.

You have to wonder if Emily needs a new training environment--Schumacher's group doesn't seem to be working out for her--training her as a 10k runner seems to cause her to break down

A couple of track grads have picked up the sport of triathlon - swim, bike, and run.
Kirsten Kasper picked up her elite card by winning the Detroit Age Group Triathlon. She was 2nd in the swim and 1st in both the bike and run (2nd was 1:30 behind her in the run).
Dylan Sorensen just missed getting the elite card at the same tri as he finished 5th (top three get the card; Dylan missed by 10 seconds), but won the run part of it. He finished 14th in the swim, 7th on the bike.
Renee Tomlin has also joined the ranks of professional triathlon competitors.
