Of course, my post was meant to be more humorous than anything else due to the fact that the "poll" was ridiculous. And Calipari gets the best classes, talent-wise, every year and not just because of the rich tradition of Kentucky basketball. Getting to the Final Four is pretty much a layup and, apparently, a solid investment. Regardless, Cal is not a good coach. Why else is he back at the college level where he can un-level the playing field? He was horrendous as an NBA coach. Which isn't to say that it's apples to apples. But there's a reason he's not back in the NBA. You'd think that, of all of the college coaches out there, he'd be best prepared to deal with the "I'm the man" think that all teams have to deal with at the pro level. And, yet, he's still in Kentucky. It's not like there hasn't been plenty of turnover in the NBA and big time markets looking for coaches.

Huh...that's weird. Never heard us referred to as an annoying fan base but i'll take it as it basically says we're a blue blood of the sport

Who's a bigger bargain at $1: the Pats on the World's Worst Fan version, or John Paul Jones on the Rock Band version?
FWIW, we haven't had enough fans at least since the Internet became a thing to be $1's worth of annoying on such a list.

These things are silly, but they generate readers and commentary. So, we can't take it too seriously.
Still, I will take the ESPN's bait. If you are grading ALL aspects of running a program including your coaching, recruiting, educational responsibilities, NCAA compliance, integrity, tournament performance, etc. as of right now, I would rate JTIII better than #46 and ahead of Cooley, Buzz, Tim Miles, Mike Brey, Tad Boyle, and others.
Given Bruce Pearl's lack of integrity at Tenn and the fact that he has not coached in a couple of years, I would leave him off the list too. Dana Altman is a very good coach, but given the serious disciplinary issues at Oregon, he was properly left off the list.
Richard Pitino over Creepy Crean, Cuonzo Martin, Ben Jacobsen, Fran Dunphy and Matt Painter???!!!

Perhaps there is a curve for children whose father publicly disgrace the family by banging slutty lunatic cocktail waitresses ...

I am presuming that they left the $15 choice, Syracuse, off the list for a reason.

Jay Wright at 19. What a freakin joke. This might be the worst list ever.

Jay Wright at 19. What a freakin joke. This might be the worst list ever. Meh, I'm kinda holding out to see how good of a hate read this thread becomes when the clickbait list gets to Shaka Smart. I noticed a random trend a while ago: Nova's postseason fortunes closely mirror ours, just a couple years behind: (GU/Nova) in the list below 2006/2008: Made the Sweet 16, lost to eventual Nat'l Champ 2007/2009: Final Four 2008/2010: Upset in Round of 32 by a 10 seed 2009/2012: Missed NCAAs 2010/2013: Lost in the Round of 64 2011/2011: Lost in the Round of 64 to a CAA School 2012/2014: Lost in the Round of 32 So extending this forward to next March, I've got some bad news for Jay Wright.

Jay Wright at 19 is a more accurate rating than JT3 at 46. How many places does JT3 jump if Rabb signs up?

Jay Wright @ #19 is interesting...
Jay Wright and JTIII is the same coach, no way should Jay Wright be that high
The guy has won 2 tournament games (2010 & 2014) in the last 5 years since their Final 4, with plenty of talent and good recruiting.
Wright has lost 58 games in the same time span (the past 5 years).
Wright's record for the last four seasons, including 2-4 in the NCAAs, is 83-50, which is about 12.5 losses per season. Wright's sub-.500 NCAA record is atrocious though.
Considering Jay Wright makes 2.5 million a year, is Villanova getting there money's worth??

So let's turn this away from a pre-season ranking thread and make this a more constructive thread. What does JTIII have to do to move up?
My thoughts beyond the obvious of just win.
- Recruit better holistically. We've been strong in certain areas in the past but I want to see more strength across all positions consistently. I think we are moving there. - Make Georgetown a national brand again. That means III needs to find his and Georgetown's marketable trait and pimp it. Big Man U used to be it but that is not the case anymore. I don't know if we can get that back under III. We may have to find a new marketable item. - OOC games need to be awesome. I may be too jaded but I think we are great at scheduling tough OOC games. That could be something we get know as like MSU and KU.

Considering Jay Wright makes 2.5 million a year, is Villanova getting there money's worth?? Wright is 108-58 over his last five seasons, Thompson 111-53. But no one is trading Jay Wright for Oliver Purnell, he runs a clean program, and wants to stay with the program. That's important because Villanova likes consistency in its coaches: since 1936, there have only been five (5) head coaches for the Wildcats.
