ugly game but a very solid effort in the second half. lots of time to rest, get healthy, and scout butler this week. should be a good crowd saturday also. for the first time all year some good vibes with the program.....

God the last four minutes of that game were called horribly both ways. Anytime anyone on defense did anything they called a foul. It was ridiculous that they totally changed the way they were calling the game with four minutes left. It's like they were paid to drag it out as long as possible. I mean, they were pretty consistent calling off-ball contact the entire game, and the game was called very tight throughout. I would say that while we had a much tighter officiating crew tonight* vs. Saturday, both teams were accessories to the FT parade. In fact, there were probably more calls for grabbing cutters and contact setting up in the post than in any of our games this season. The former is to our benefit (JTIII has long complained officials don't call enough grabs against cutters), the latter less so b/c especially in the first half we gave up deep post position way too easily and fouled in the paint. (*And yes, as will be the case in every game we play until the postseason...everyone is a Big East ref.)

That was a gutsy win. The boys played with confidence and poise the entire game. When was the last time anyone could say that about this team. Everyone played well. Jabril was the most under-controlled as I have ever seen him. Markel really played within himself, not forcing things too much--with the exception of once or twice. I like how he is honing his leadership skills on the basketball court. I especially liked how DSR did not lose confidence, but kept fighting back from his shooting slump. The kid has got some confidence in his shot.

Saturday was a great win, way to back it up guys. Is it me or is Trawick proving valuable? Guess you can't double all 3 guards...

That crossover step back move for a three by Markel was outstanding.

Jabril has played really well the last 2 games... Best 2 game stretch as a Hoya!

How about that stat that FS1 provided. Georgetown has the most wins over teams ranked in the top 10 since 08-09 with 15. So discounting 3 of our best years in 06, 07, and 08 we still beat more top 10 teams than anyone else.

Great game for Jabril. Not sure why so many people are surprised.
On the other hand, Nate fouled out in 25 minutes, Moses in 22 minutes and Hopkins in 11 minutes in what must be some kind of record. Seriously, how?
At least Nate had 10 boards.

(*And yes, as will be the case in every game we play until the postseason...everyone is a Big East ref.) It was the on the ball fouls that were the issues. I mean, the foul they called against Depaul on Markel's elbow jumper? Moses' fifth foul? Pretty much anytime we got to the line the last five minutes? When you are calling a foul on every possession for a 4 minute period, you either screwed up the first 36 minutes or are screwing up now.

Great game for Jabril. Not sure why so many people are surprised. Well when you have people on this board who argued that he wouldn't have made a difference in our 5 game losing streak, the surprise shouldn't be surprising.

Chiming in late; had to watch on DVR on the west coast. But man, that was among the worst basketball games I have ever watched. Both teams stunk out loud, but there was also:
1. Attendance / Atmosphere. That crowd was embarrassing. Makes me wish there was a way to kick DePaul out of the conference. There is just no hope for that program - utter dead weight for the NBE. 2. Officiating. I am sure it has been beaten to death in this thread, but there were at least a dozen fouls that never should have been called, if not more. The refs were like traffic cops at the end of the month. It definitely cut both ways, but from a Hoya perspective Hop's 3rd, Nate's 4th and Moses' 5th were especially unconscionable. Those refs should be sanctioned. 3. The Announcers. Good lord they were terrible. I can't believe some posters used to hate on Doris Burke (one of my favorites) - well, this is what we get on Fox when Billy and Gus have done 3 games in two days. Makes me pine for the days of Len Elmore. At least he knew our players' names and what conference we are in. Rivera-Smith? Big 10?
Other thoughts: - I am starting to get really worried about DSR's shooting. He needs to break out of this funk. Reminds me of Austin in 2011. If the announcers were correct, DSR is now 1-18 in has last 19 3s. Like Austin, he is able to drive and get to the line to mask the problem (17 pts tonight), but I'd rather have our 45% 3PT shooter back. - What is with Reggie's playing time? He has become a starter in name only. What's strange is that III will run plays for him in the first few minutes of each half, then he won't see the court again for 10-12 minutes. I know he gets lost on defense (a lot), but it still seems strange that he doesn't get more offensive possessions.
This one always felt like a game we'd pull away in, and I am glad we did. On to Butler. Hoya Saxa.

great job by the team coming back from the bad start. starks, lubick and markel really played big. DSR struggled shooting but he got to the line and made his ft's. the key stat for me was only 7 turnovers. we weren't making many shots early but we were making them work on defense until the offense got into a groove a bit in the second half. another solid game defensively and on the baords. the bigs have to stop with the silly fouls especially hopkins.

Seriously, how? At least Nate had 10 boards. Jabril hit a three and all his free throws. It's not that he was good, it's how he was good that was the surprise. That was his first game of the season where he hit a three and shot over 50% from the line. It's been a long haul for his shooting stroke this year for some reason. If it's back, not even better just back to last year's 30% and 72% from three and the line respectively we're much better for it. I think the hackiest teams in the conference came out swinging and the refs got carried away after awhile. It was a grind but called pretty fairly so can't complain. And that said, I'm kind of glad they call us sometimes. We have no business reaching as much as we do. Often we're not even out of position, we just can't help ourselves for that last little slap. Can't do that these next two because Butler and Provvy won't match us foul for foul.

The weird thing is in 07 we only beat two Top Ten teams (I quick looked on Hoyabasketball.com)--Pitt was #10 in February and UNC was #4, such that polls still matter in the Elite Eight. In 2008, Memphis was the only Top Ten team we even played, and we lost.

DePaul is coming back as a program with some very promising young players. I just question having them play so far from their school on a Monday night. There is simply no way taht this game would draw a crowd. I love the FS1 coverage but the Big East needs to try to schedule better for purposes of attendance.
As for the game, it was everything that has been said--good and bad. What I am liking more though is the defense when Bowen and Jabril are on the court together. Both are aggressive players who can also rebound. Cameron was not a factor last night but I hope that JT III sticks with him. His scoring potential is going to be important down the stretch, particularly with DSR being off right now. Lubick still adds more than he subtracts in any game and when he is trying to be an offensive threat he becomes a very vital part of the team. He really needs to attempt a couple of shots early each game just to make the defense a little more honest. Feel the same about Hopkins. Starks stayed under control for most of the game last night, particularly in the first half when everything was stalling. His composure and intelligent play is the most critical element to a successful run through the last part of the season.

If you read the game thread, poster were throwing Bowen overboard after he missed the FT's in the first half. But he came back strong in the 2nd half...hit the 3pt shot that gave the team the first lead of the game and lead for good Also had a steal and a dunk in the final minutes that helped seal the win.
