I'd like to see more Joshua soon and I agree with the need for the guards to be more assertive. I'd put more emphasis on the latter for now. Two reasons (1) DSR, Starks, and Jabril need to get used to consistently carrying the scoring weight and (2) the new foul rules cater more towards driving guards.
Georgetown has not been a drive-to-the-hoop team, traditionally, but Starks and Jabril seem to be realizing how much they can get away with by using that free hand to get around defenders who would otherwise grab or hand-check. Thompson normally doesn't bust out the back-cuts and high-post plays until conference play, so I hope he stresses this advantage and the guards milk this rule until the refs forget to focus on it.
Hoyas can maybe beat up Northeastern and a few others in this tournament down low, but there is no need.

This may have been addressed elsewhere but can anyone enlighten me as to the significance of Dominique Smith-Rivera's crossed arm gesticulation after a made basket? This "look at me" mentality seems out of step with the comportment of GU players over the years and, I would guess, at odds with what has been taught and tolerated by coaches.

While coach would likely rather not see that sort of thing all year and his father wouldn't have tolerated it, III knows he can't shut it down and can only keep it relatively low key, like a close to the body gesture rather than full-on chest bumps every hoop. I don't love the three all gesture either personally and I know it does not have to be part of the game, but hey, better than hitting a girl cough cough SU cough cough

I know of no reason why the coach could not forbid it. And I would still like to know what means.

Comical, isn't it? He is trying to convey some message and not even the closest followers of his own team seem to understand it.

If DSR wants to make a motion, and it's not offensive, who cares? And who cares if we aren't privy to the inside meaning? I want our players to have humility, but I don't think this is egregious. You also really have to be looking for it to see it. I can only remember seeing him do it maybe once this year, and I follow the games very closely on TV. If it was meant to be an attempt for attention, it would be a lot more visible, I am sure.

Do you honestly have nothing better to do than worry about DSR making a little sign when he hits a three? Half the NBA does something similar - I think James Harden has about 20 varieties of after three pointer signals. It's not anything egregious and it's a non-issue.

Not sure we want our players making hand signals like James Harden: nba247365.com/?p=6864There's been speculation that gang ties are a major reason Oklahoma City got rid of Harden, despite how good he is.

It's his signature move, it's subtle, it's all good. More DSR arm gestures = more made 3s. I want to see as many as possible!
As for the NE game, I want to see how the bigs other than Josh are looking in game 3 (love what I'm seeing from Josh so far ... except the lack of D rebounding and getting stripped), especially if they can figure out how to finish at the cup more effectively.
The team's a work in progress, and this is only game 3 of the season. Looking for quality progress in fundamental areas, not necessarily a blow out (though those are always nice).
Also, this seems as good a place as any for a disclaimer: apologies in advance if my posts in the next week or so are rambling or incoherent; I'm recovering from Achilles tendon surgery.

Is the team in PR yet? I hope we focus on attacking off the bounce, freeing up shooters when Josh is not in the game taking triple teams
