We're extremely happy to announce that Georgetown Scarves have been purchased online and sent to 34 of 50 States (up from 32 yesterday). As part of our goal of uniting the Georgetown fan community we want to show everyone just how far the reach of the Hilltop is. We hope to move internationally as well, but our initial focus is on all 50 U.S. States, so take a look at this map, and please share this with your friends. We'd love your help in turning this entire map GRAY! HOYA SAXA!!! MAP as of this morning (4/22): sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/321609_476314675773310_1073735988_n.jpgPURCHASE YOUR SCARVES HERE: georgetownstonewalls.com/the-scarf/

Well done 2007, but no matter how well you market Scarves, it's still going to be a tough sell in Hawaii!

I guess if I were in Delaware, I would use my first $15 to get out of Delaware too.

Good to see that Brendan and Jeff are getting in the action. Jeff is also president of our GU Club of Nevada and has his own show on the Strip, in addition to his pilot on the travel channel. Hopefully, it will be picked up. I am afraid that we will have to pack our scarves in mothballs until the cooler weather in Nevada. I am sure that at game watches next season we will all be wearing our scraves. Maybe Brendan can wear it on one of his truck/car races.

Well done 2007, but no matter how well you market Scarves, it's still going to be a tough sell in Hawaii! Hmmmm. Would this work: let's say I live in Hawaii, ordered a scarf and then sent it on as a gift to a friend in.... Massachusetts. Or would that violate the spirit of the effort? Just askin'.

Would really love it to get sent to each state with the intention of it staying there, but maybe if we don't have any luck with that we'll have to look at alternatives like this, haha. I'll be posting an update shortly, there's more gray on the map now.

We've added 3 new states to the map, bringing us to 41 total! Thanks to Chase (Boise, ID), Mark (Albuquerque, NM) and Dan (Cheyenne, WY) as well as the dozens of other Hoyas who have purchased scarves in existing gray states over the past few days! Only 9 states left to go! Please share this with your friends and family in Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire and Vermont so that we can finish the job! georgetownstonewalls.com/the-scarf/Here's the updated map: sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/408598_476990825705695_1945095956_n.jpg

Is the scarf available at the Bookstore?
If not, have you investigated the possibility of selling them there? I imagine that you could hit a higher retail price point (convenience, no shipping, doting parents) and maintain your margin while enhancing the scarves ubiquity.

The scarf is not available at the bookstore. They sell their own versions for $30 each. The bookstore would certainly allow us to reach a larger audience, particularly parents, but I don't think we want to raise the price point so significantly.
We don't make very much on each individual sale, but the goal has been to make it as affordable as possible and help us in our mission of building unity rather than trying to make a profit.
We're now officially a non-profit organization as well, and although we need to continue raising funds to continue doing what we started this year, we don't want to do it by gouging people like the bookstore.
I do appreciate the suggestion though, and perhaps there's a way to work out an agreement with them and still keep the price down.

Since shipping to Texas (I just bought three) for a single scarf is $8, perhaps you could reach an agreement whereby the Bookstore would agree to sell for $23 each. Another possibility would be to see if the school would let you sell on campus during Freshman move in period. The combination of Freshmen wanting to fit in, parents who haven't quite figured out how much money four years at Georgetown is going to cost them and a cool item (the scarf) with money going to a good cause is as good a marketing proposition as one is ever going to see.

Definitely, that was exactly the approach we used to sell season tickets to freshmen when I was in Hoya Blue. Only problem with this might be the fact that it's generally about 90 degrees with 95% humidity during move-in, not exactly conducive to scarf sales. Still, I agree with you completely and I'm sure people would buy them even in the heat. Your suggestion with the bookstore is worth exploring, it's something we'll have to discuss as a board. Finally, thanks so much for your order, it is truly appreciated!

They definitely don't get as much foot traffic from parents, but they are fixed retail spots in Leavey and the SWQ. And the Corp should be amenable to a low price and to doing some joint marketing.
