Daniel Martin @dmartincsn 13m
Just talked to Kelly Oubre. Says #GTown heavily in the mix. Says he “definitely” took notice of Porter going No. 3 overall. Story later.

Quote from the article, Oubre speaking about Otto:
"I played AAU and I got the exposure that I needed, but I could see him. He didn't play AAU, but he's still successful, so imagine if I went to that school and I was successful even more."
Pretty convoluted thinking, but it speaks to how recruits view Otto's success as a motivator to consider the Hoyas.

www.scarberrymedia.com/2013/07/25/kelly-oubre-and-houston-hoops-preparing-for-espnu-primetime-matchup-with-e1t1/-After two straight blowout wins for each team, Kelly Oubre and his Houston Hoops team face D’Angelo Russell’s E1T1 squad tonight at 7 p.m. in a matchup that some are saying could be the best of the summer. “It is a highly anticipated game, gonna be on ESPN, so we ready, and everybody is focused and ready for the game. The coaches stressing don’t come out sluggish because you will get embarrassed on TV. We gonna come out, and play 100 percent, just try and get this W tonight,” Oubre says of the matchup between two of the top EYBL teams. Oubre has also garnered the attention of Kentucky and Big Blue Nation in the past few weeks, stating his contact with head coach John Calipari. “Coach Calipari, you know, has been texting me for a while after Peach Jam and sent me an offer. We’ve been in close contact, and you know I’m liking Big Blue Nation right now. I wanna take a visit up there, but I don’t have anything set up right now,” the 6-foot-7 forward says.

Sounds like he knows what to say to each fan base. Smart kid.
Not a must get but he has the tools. Wish he were a Hoya but there are bigger needs.

Kansas is perceived the leader. Oubre loves III, but it probably won't be enough.

New article on Oubre visits on Scout. Seems like a big 3 right now... scouthoops.scout.com/2/1318624.html (sub) Oubre, who stands 6-foot-7, has a host of high majors in the hunt for his services, including Florida, Kentucky, Kansas, Oregon, UConn, Georgetown and Arizona. Three of the schools will get visits in the near future. “I set my first official visit up to Kansas for the Late Night at the Phog,” Oubre told Scout.com. “After that I’m going to the USA mini camp. That’s pretty much it right now. I’m looking to set a Kentucky visit up and a Florida visit.” ... Outside of visiting those three schools, Oubre hasn’t decided if he will see any other schools. “Not for sure right now,” he responded. “Those three are pretty high on my list, but I have two other spots open right now and I’m going to see where else I want to go to.” ... “Kansas has been on me for a while,” he said. “Kentucky has been on me for a while. All of those schools send their whole staffs out, Florida also. They sent their whole staff out. They built relationships with me. Coach Donovan has been staying in contact with me for a while. I believe he’s been a great relationship builder.”

I guess..a two/SF is luxury, however, high major talent is high major talent. A get would change perception as well.

Where is the USA mini camp? Is JT3 still an assistant to the Davidson coach?

he has ascended close to top 10 player in his class according to scout/rival/espn. my question is was he always this good but underrated due to the other top players around him? or did he just get tad better over the summer? or is he overrated according to these ranking sites? i thought he was more of a top 50 player comparable to issac copeland and paul white. now he is suddenly most likely going to be MCD AA and future NBA lottery pick. edit: the higher the player is ranked, the less of a chance we seem to have these days

Moving from Louisiana to Texas upped his profile and also dominating with Houston Hoops in the AAU season with 2 5 stars on that roster also helped up his national profile. But yes he’s always been really good just not seen as much.. On a side note guys that don’t play in those big AAU tourney’s always seem to get devalued. Elbert Robinson might fit that category..

Thanks for the response Yabo. another quick question then - how do you compare Oubre to Copeland/White. I know Oubre is 2/3, and Copeland/White are 3/4, but I am talking about the talent level and their future likely contribution in NCAA. If Oubre were to come to Hilltop, would he be the next Otto instantly?
