Looking at Wikipedia, the 1984 BET final was on the 10th which was a saturday. However, the 1987 BET final was on a Sunday. Im not going to look at all of these (they are all on wikipedia if you want to), but I am going to guess that the final has moved a number of times based on TV. If you want to look them all: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1987_Big_East_Men%27s_Basketball_Tournament

No question in my mind that a move back to a Sunday final would be best.

Went back to the old big east programs and doublechecked again, and everyone's got a little bit of right (which means I have a little bit wrong) on the game days. 1980-84, the final was on a Saturday (I think some may have been afternoons rather than evenings but don't know), and then 85-95 it was the Sunday afternoon final; then back to the current/ever expanding back into the week from a Saturday final format. Regardless of the day of the final, planning to go will be SO much easier in the coming couple years with the smaller conference...

The permanent move to Saturday finals was a concession to ESPN to have the ACC as the "premier" final game on Sunday. For those attending the games who are employed, the Friday to Sunday schedule makes much more sense.

I disagree with this. I think the Saturday night final is the best thing about the BET and why it's so much better than the ACC, B10, and SEC tournaments that don't finish until the time the bracket is announced. The final needs to stay on Saturday night. That's part of the reason it's such a big event. No other conference tournament games are competing with it. It's the main attraction. Sunday you'd be competing with 3 other conference championship games. Completely agree, and for those complaining about their work schedules, had the final been Sunday, it would have been a pretty tough Monday morning in 2007---the party at the Affinia wrapped up around 4:00 a.m. Love the Saturday night final in NYC.

For those attending the games who are employed, the Friday to Sunday schedule makes much more sense. But what really happened is that the Big East tournament became the premier tournament precisely because it was on Saturday, on its own, in MSG. Can you imagine the 6OT game starting 3pm on a sunday? It woulnt have ended and they would have announced the brackets. And because all the attention on Sunday is on the brackets, the craziness of that game would have been neutered. Im not sure why any tournaments end on Sunday. The season should end on that Saturday so that they brackets can be set with all of the information available. The Committed already doesnt like the ACC being so late on Sunday. Why would the Big East want to move to sunday with those idiots.

The permanent move to Saturday finals was a concession to ESPN to have the ACC as the "premier" final game on Sunday. This is true..if you wanna be the Premier League, your championship game should be the last one played. ESPN will continue to hype the ACC as the best Conference/Champion Tourney in the country and if Fox wants to compete with that notion, move the New Big East Championship game to Sunday too.

That's really not true. The final conference tourney to finish is actually the Big Ten, which has always been played right before the selection show on CBS. Back in the day, the Big East final was also on CBS, as the first part of a doubleheader in front of the Big Ten. To my mind, the move to Saturday night increased the visibility of the Big East final. There are far more casual sports fans watching on Saturday night than on Sunday afternoon. As an attendee of the BET, I liked the Sunday final. When I'm home and watching on TV, I think I like Saturday night better.

There is nothing better than the Saturday night BET final in MSG. Should not even be a discussion. Well, except for the Friday night semis in MSG.

I've read no argument that would come close to swaying me from a Sat night final.
