MCI always thought Whittington was a better player than Porter. 33 points vs Cuse on the road can change peoples mind.

Bird was almost 6'10 and Otto is 6'9....big difference I guess haha 2 inches is huge in the nba. Bird was tall. Otto is probably closer to 6'7 and Bird was damn near 6'10.

The important thing to remember is that, on the night Syracuse University honored noted scholar athlete, and all-around (coach killing participant in Stop Snitching videos) good guy Carmelo "Melo" Anthony, Otto led the mighty Hoyas in a defining, streak ending and conference closing victory over our biggest rival. I'm good!

You guys are missing it! Otto=Christian Laettner. Ok, he's giving up 2 inches but their college stats and the way they got those stats are eerily similar.

I've seen him stand next to NBA players and he's taller than Hollis who was 6'8".5 at the combine. No way Otto is 6'7. Greg is going to be 6'10 before we know it too. He's almost eye to eye with Josh Smith who is pretty much a legit 6'10".

FREE GREG WHITTINGTON I've said that I think Greg has more upside, physically speaking. But I've never been confused about who is the best player, particularly at this moment and time. I've even mentioned this again in recent posts over the past couple of weeks. Were you not paying attention or were you too busy questioning the toughness of Jabril? Weren't you the one early in the Syracuse game thread demanding III take out Jabril and put in DSR? Thanks for re-posting my request to free Greg. I appreciate the support.

I love how Otto instinctively follows every jump shot he takes with 2 or 3 steps toward the basket. You never see that anymore. Really, never.
Bird v. Otto comp is poor. Bird was among the best college players ever. He did everything, and I mean everything, significantly better than Otto. Otto ain't all that...yet.

Agree, that unless Otto is like this every night he is closer to Bird in spirit than in reality at the college level. Bird was a top 5-10 all time college player at least. Still a great & unique player, especially in today's game, that left us all an all-time memory today.

Just checked some stats for Bird.
For his 3 year career averages:
30.3 PPG 13.3 RPG 4.6 APG .533 FG% .822 FT%
Oh, and he led an previously unknown mid-major to the NCAA championship game.

Reggie Williams was more of an elite run-and-jump athlete and more of a natural ballhandler though, but I see your point on that one too. I've been curious about this comparison for awhile. As someone too young to have watched Reggie (outside of the win over Houston on ESPN Classic), how do the two guys stack up? They both seem to be very fluid wings who had very few if any holes in their games. Obviously, Reggie did it longer and played in two championship games, but is this a remotely fair comparison?

I'm still confused as to how I hijacked the thread by disagreeing with the person that started it. They're not very similar players. That's all I was saying. I mentioned how they weren't similar but MCI never responded and, instead, made it personal. It's still not a good comparison regardless of how badly MCI wants it to be. Otto is a phenomenal player. He's just not a Larry Bird type player. To argue that he is is to elucidate that MCI never watched many LB games. It's just a poor comparison. Why compare what Otto did tonight to anyone? It's a tough comparison to anyone really. He carried our team to a win tonight with less identifiable help (Moses, Jabril). I'd rather evaluate his contributions as himself. He's not Larry Bird in pretty much any capacity. Could he be if the guys around him sucked? Maybe. Luckily for us, they don't suck. He gives the team what they need on any given night.

Reggie Williams was a real tough guy. He could do everything on the basketball court and didn't take $hit from any opponent. A lot of people in NYC(st johns fans) hate the Hoyas , but they have respect for Reggie Williams. Mark Jackson (golden st warriors head coach) told me some great stories about Reggie abusing cats at 5 star camp. He was a special player, but his NBA career was disappointing. He was a better athlete and had a smoother game than Otto.
