Greg's absence has absolutely killed our 2-3. We just can't go into it anymore, even when trying to steal a few possessions with it we get lit up.

This. He would be perfect either guarding Sutherland or MCW. He will be missed. I think Greg's biggest value would be allowing us to play zone with his length out front. If you cheat on Southerland, they are very inconsistent outside, and they have virtually no inside game other than the guards driving and Fair maneuvering for his 10-12 footers. An active zone gives them real trouble, but you need the length out front to prevent open shots, not sure we have that right now. Agree with everything said by Frazier. We still gave up an awful lot of good looks from 3 last night. Luckily it was DePaul. We give those looks to Cuse in the Carrier Dome and we are walking out with an L. Please, for the love of God, guard Southerland from 3. Zoning with Markel, DSR and Brilly up top will be tough against this team, but we'll see how that plays out. I think we're going to need a solid game from either Moses/Hopkins to be in this game because we'll need to run Otto out at the 3 when Cuse is playing big. Will be interesting to see how JTIII attacks this year's Cuse zone...Otto at the elbows/FT line allows him to shoot his deft midrange, but we might want him at the receiving end of a lot of that high post action...so maybe Lubick? Or go with DSR in a Chris Wright role from our last win there? Gonna be fun (I hope). Most importantly, this place is going to be rockin' by a 4pm tip. We need to be able to take a punch right off the bat with some early Cuse momentum/rabid home field advantage and get right back on the horse. We can't allow ourselves to get down 15 by the 10 minute mark as I've remembered some @cuse games going...focus and faith in running our stuff.

For those good at finding these things, when was the last time a Georgetown Syracuse game was between two teams tied for first? It seems like it has been a #1 vs #2 contest frequently over the years, but I haven't found any season in which the two have been tied for first going into the game.

It's good that DSR had this explosion. Extra attention on him will give Markel, Jabril, and Otto that much more time on their perimeter looks. Jabril will be important because he won't get as much attention as the other guys. I hope he comes to play.

The main thing I have noticed over the years as the difference between the way the average Georgetown fan feels about syracuse and the average syracuse fan feels about Georgetown is that while both groups hate the other with a fiery passion. Syracuse fans are forced to begrudgingly respect us , while we have no reason to respect syracuse at all. The way Georgetown runs our program demands respect. While the way Syracuse runs their programs demands nothing but contempt. That is and always will be the difference between the programs.

And so it begins. The Battle for final Big East supremacy. The chance to determine who is the best all time in the BE. The things the Hoyas will do Saturday will echo through the ages. The Hoyas closed Manley. Let 35,012 orange losers witness the Hoyas do the same in the Dome Saturday. Mass are you really Curry Kirkpatrick or are you channeling Grantland Rice . Well said Neither. I just steal good material wherever I can. Wait til I use the Four Hoyas of the Apocalypse line.

I feel fairly confident with our half court man to man against syracuse. I think bril can keep MCW out of the lane and make him take outside jumpers. The 2 biggest keys for me is limiting turnovers, they get a lot of their points off of turnovers or runouts off long jumpers missed. Also, rebounding, we can't give them 2 or 3 chances on the offensive end and expect to win. Put Otto in the middle of the zone and let him go to work and I think we have a real shot here

I think we have historically executed pretty well against Syracuse's zone, and if we have a healthy Otto we're well equipped to do that again. I do worry about their size and shotblocking - they have a lot of aggressive shot blockers and they often have three of them on the floor at once. Recognizing and using shot fakes and such to get our looks off is going to be huge on offense.
On defense, got to key on Southerland. If he gets going from the outside, you're pretty much done. If we're making MCW and Triche take threes, we're on the right track.

The DSR-Porter-Starks line will be key in destroying the zone from 3pt lane and the top of the key.

I would wager good money that Jabril says or does something unimaginably badass in the face of a hostile crowd/opposing player.

Not relevant to Saturday, but we are rather quietly 28-2 at home over the last two seasons. Would be very nice to not only win Saturday, but beat Rutgers, sweep Cuse, and get that to 30-2. Verizon is becoming a fortress, surprisingly.

Make tough basketball plays and stop posing like you're going to do something. Dudes like that kill me. Square up like Perry McDonald if you're so tough. Play real D like Gene Smith if you're so tough.

He's also greatly improved in finishing around the basket and penetrating off hte dribble. He still has a lot to work on in both the finishing and perimeter shooting department and I don't think we want him taking jumpers this weekend, but don't get the haterade spewed toward JT5. Kid gives it his absolute all. I suppose you consider BANKERS to be the real tough guys and true MEN.

Bril is playing great defense. I could live without a little bit of the flexing, but he takes huge pride in his defense and he's fearless taking the ball to the hoop. He is definitely tough in every sense of the word.
