That team doesn't play defense. If I'm a Friars fan I'm excited about returning everyone but Council and maybe adding Ledo (are they?), but the lack of any real defense signals to me a lack of coaching ability in that area.

I doubt Ledo ever plays for them.

Is Chukwu going to Providence? If not, I'm not sure how this thread devolved into a Provy thread.

If I'm a Friars fan I'm excited about returning everyone but Council and maybe adding Ledo (are they?), but the lack of any real defense signals to me a lack of coaching ability in that area. Watching Providence signals to me a lack of coaching ability in just about every area. Ed Cooley seems like a very nice guy. It's cool that he's originally from Providence and I'm sure people want to do see him do well since he's got that skin condition. However, he's shown absolutely nothing to suggest he'll be a successful coach at Providence and get that program to be competitive (which I would like to see it be in the new conference). Cooley had a slightly above .500 record while at Fairfield. His Fairfield teams NEVER made the NCAA Tournament. At Providence, he walked into a roster that included Vincent Council, Kadeem Batts and Bryce Cotton. In his first year, his team went under .500 overall, 4-14 in the Big East. This year, he again easily misses the NCAA Tournament and is probably a bubble team for the NIT. After 7 years as a head coach, Cooley has yet to coach an NCAA Tournament game. The reason I rail on Cooley is he's a bad high major coach. He's not qualified to be head coach at Providence. Until he's replaced, I believe it's very unlikely that Providence will be anything but a bottom feeder and a drag on the new conference.

He seems to be like alot of coaches in thinking they'll win off getting recruits only; see Lavin, Bryce Drew, etc. But lack x and o ability or stop tryin to coach.

At Providence, he walked into a roster that included Vincent Council, Kadeem Batts and Bryce Cotton. So what? You're talking about that like it represents a championship roster in the Big East. That's absolutely laughable. This is a thread about Chukwu, and I have no idea why you take the opportunity to rail on a second year coach who has improved his team from the cellar to .500 for watching an area big man who is 7'2". It's just a downright stupid position to take. Teams get better by recruiting better, that sure seems like what Cooley is trying to do when watching Chukwu. I still think Providence should have hired Al Skinner, but I don't get why Cooley is being given the business for getting a crappy team with almost no regional or structural advantages back to .500. Taking this back to Chukwu, Prep beat East Hartford, after Chukwu made a go-ahead basket and blocked a shot in the final minute. He the proceeded to foul out trying to block a three point attempt which could have tied the game. Chukwu had 12 points, 10 blocks, and 9 rebounds. Prep faces Hillhouse on Saturday in the LL final.

He's definitely a shotblocker, but he seems like an offensive non factor right now. I don't even know if we're involved. I think we're following this kid on this board mainly because so many of us here went to Prep (lichoya, CTHoya08, jahidihoya, etc) and it is a Jesuit feeder HS for Georgetown and because he's 7'2" and anyone 7'2" is interesting. Cooley coached at Fairfield U (Prep is on the same campus), so I assume he knows the Prep coaching staff.

You might have, but I don't think it's a huge part of his game. He does nail a few jumpers and hit some nifty reverses and dunks of course, and he definitely seems peppy on the court (he's not a lumbering 7'2" whatsoever - he's pretty bouncy and moves pretty well).
Don't get me wrong, he'll be a major conference player - I don't think he's a Guibunda.

Latest Rivals update says Hoyas have been in contact. Here’s some highlights: www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=paschal%20chukwu&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CDkQtwIwAQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dw_vtMNuROVE&ei=1al5UYCVOuHxiwLfqoHADw&usg=AFQjCNHt3K7bRg1CGfkDt_pQ8nK24Nkyhw&sig2=J7nnfyHHJVumroAivJ55Pg&bvm=bv.45645796,d.cGE Couple things: In the Rivals article the fellow that’s handling his recruitment stated size of school and program do not matter. They have him playing on a lower level AAU team that emphasizes skill development and claim they could care less about exposure. He stated that the most important thing and it did not seem like lip service was what the program offered academically and how they saw him developing in his studies. He seemed very stern and mentioned from the jump his would not be a regular recruitment "I don't need a lot of assistant coaches coming through here, to be honest. Any school that has a sincere interest in Paschal should have its head coach contact me and explain to us exactly what their plans are for Paschal, and what they can offer him academically. That would be my advice to any school.” Schools on his list are UConn, Providence, Syracuse, Georgetown and Maryland I just had a vision of a 7’2 underrated center with developing skills, and a 6’9 PF/SF that’s just starting to blow up… Deja Vu’? Hmmm

I guess Magoo called him up and told him about all of the great experience Paschal can have in learning to get away with do,estic abuse. Or maybe they are really impressed with Rak Christmas.

He's at Fairfield Prep, which is absolutely unheard of for a big time recruit in basketball. He wouldn't be there if academics weren't a priority.
