Summer action: I had the privilege of watching Wings big man Jessie Govan numerous times over the summer as he competed in the Nike EYBL circuit with the NY Lightning. He also attended the Nike Skills Academy in New Jersey and the Lebron James Skills Academy in Las Vegas. Govan is imposing because of his tremendous size. However, the reason he is a top 60 ranked player by ESPN and heading to Georgetown is because of his soft touch around the basket and ability to step out and hit 15 footers. Govan is also a willing passer and an intimidating presence on the defensive end. He is an ideal fit for Georgetown’s Princeton style offense which values skilled big men. He is coming off of a good summer in the EYBL circuit and should have a great senior season for Wings. www.hardwoodinsiders.com/2014/09/season-preview-wings/

Love love love these two. I agree; tremendous offensive skillsets for kids that big and that young. I think the key to their development is their dedication to working on defense and a strength and conditioning program.

Love love love these two. I know that the staff has been hard at work on Skal and Rabb as they should be, but with these two inside players in the house so to speak , the straw that will stir the drink next year is Dozier or some other highly rated PG. Given the incoming class this year the only position that is suspect is at PG. They may already have it in Campbell, I don't know. DSR may be able to successfully convert from a 2 guard to a PG like Markel did but does he have the speed to run the point and play man-to-man defense.

Not your typical big man, fellas. He has moves and dexterity for a big man the likes I haven't seen since--do I dare say--my boy, Michael Grahm.

Getting Dozier would definitely be nice.

“(Finishing undefeated is) real big, but that’s not our goal. Our goal is to win the whole thing,” said the highly-recruited 6-10 Govan, who has strong interest from Louisville, Seton Hall, UConn and Miami. He finished with a triple-double: 11 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks.

The game and article both happened before his commitment. It’s a playoff game from Last season..

Jessie's Journal: Final H.S. Season Georgetown here I come! I'm gonna be taking my official visit the weekend of Midnight Madness, if you guys see me down there make sure you say wassup! Hope the environment is crazy down there I know you guys are gonna be making a whole lot of noise! #HoyaSaxa I started senior year not too long ago, and this year I only have 3 classes and gym. I'm taking 2 AP courses, English and Government, to get ready for Georgetown, they take their academics real serious. Government's a little challenging but I have a good teacher so I should be good. My goal this year are to make the honor roll again, I made it my last 3 years of high school so why not end it on the right note! www.givengobasketball.com/final-high-school-season

A recruit taking AP classes is something that is great to see. In light of that, it's easier to understand why he chose Georgetown. Someone who didn't want to go to school in the first place probably wouldn't even know what an AP class was.

Nice to read these comments from the kid. It is important to recruit kids that have the ability to succeed on the court and in the classroom.
