Jessie Govan Wings Academy/NY Lightning Govan was one of three Georgetown commits that was in attendance at the Nike Skills Academy (Marcus Derrickson and Noah Dickerson). Govan is what people have come to expect when they think of Georgetown big men of recent past. He is enormous at 6’11 266lbs, but he is tremendously skilled. Over the two and a half days of camp he performed very well. He shot the ball at a high percentage all the way out to 17 feet. His form is compact and he usually releases it before defenders can even get their hands up to contest it. Govan also showed that he is in great shape. On multiple occasions he sprinted the floor to get a foot in the paint, putting smaller defenders at a great disadvantage. When he received the ball in the post he either finished with a quick move or dumped it off to a cutter. www.hardwoodinsiders.com/2014/06/nike-skills-academy-recap/

Awesome. Jessie is going to be a great Hoya. Let's not forget him as we gnash our teeth over Ivan, Skal et al.

Yaboy posted that Govan is taking his official to The hilltop for midnight madness. This is actually the news we wanted to hear. Govan is a prized recruit for us who already had offers from programs like Syracuse when he committed.....unlike Dickerson, we were his top choice.

I still believe his commitment after Dickerson's changed the dynamics for Dickerson. The Hoyas options for 2015 at the time Dickerson verballed were Hayes and non-back to the basket centers like Skal and Rabb.

It seems interesting to me that more and more kids seem to be committing to us and probably other schools as well with out having taken official visits. Peak hadn't had one, Dickerson hadn't had one, and now I guess Govan hadn't had one either.

Govan had just visited on an unofficial days before he committed. I don't think Peak had ever set foot on campus.

Govan attends Wings Academy in the Bronx, New York. He runs with the New York Lightening during the summer. On day two Govan showed just how skilled he is. He displayed a nice jump hook as well as a soft touch on his jumper. Govan will be playing for the Georgetown Hoyas in the fall of 2015. He and his Lightening squad will be playing at the Nike Peach Jam next week. www.hardwoodinsiders.com/2014/07/lebron-james-skills-academy-day-2-recap/

The EYBL Circuit @d1circuit 12m Jessie Govan is a beast. Just had a put back dunk over Giddens, really active on both ends.

I watched alot of that game. Jessie played well in spurts. The talent of the teams was evident. Team Penny especially the lawson kids were dominant. Gocan has a nice FT stroke and was triple teamed in the post on every post up. The one thing that was worrisome is he doesnt have good shot blocking instincts.

Just looking at the stats, I like the 12 boards and perfect from the line. However, 5 of 17 from the field is pretty ugly. Were his misses due to getting blocked, shooting outside his range, just misses? Thanks.

Everytime they ran a play for him to get the ball on the block team penny would send 2 guys because his teammates arent great shooters. He basically has a go to move of catching on the left block dribbling once to the right with his left hand and countering to a right hand hook in the middle. It is unstoppable in the 2 times I've watched him. He doesnt really have a counter move to that. He also shoots a pretty nice left hand hook. I just think he has problems with quick springy guys because they can challenge his shot better.
