How would that work when the gun is used by someone who isn't on the policy?

How would that work when the gun is used by someone who isn't on the policy? Could pair with universal registration and hold liable last registered owner of the weapon.

Is that how it works when a car is stolen / used without permission? (Honest question-I have no idea) Also, universal registration would need to be paired with exemptions from FOIA. No reason why a newspaper should be making interactive maps of gun owners' homes.

I live right near Sidwell. Near a lot of Sidwell families too. Their security guards are absolutely not armed, outside of the secret service guys. I've been to a lot of Josh Hart's games over there and seen their security guys. They're your basic mall security guys. Somehow someone started this rumor on Twitter and it caught fire, but it's just not true. Maybe they have access to a gun, but they're not carrying concealed weapons. Or open carrying. But Breitbart is the absolute depths of the internet, so I don't know why I even clicked that link. I have seen nothing that says the reports of 11 armed guards is not true. Other than your own observation, is there other proof? Also, David Gregory and NBC apparently intentionally violated DC law on Meet the Press: www.politico.com/story/2012/12/cops-nbc-told-dont-use-gun-clip-85497.html

As I may or may not have said earlier, I am a believer in interpreting the Constitution or its Amendments according to the original intent at the time it was signed. I do not believe the 2nd Amendment was originally intended to include anything other than a weapon similar to that in existence when it was enacted, updated, perhaps, for improvements over time. So I have no objection to imposing limits on multi-fired guns as long as it passes the approval of the Supreme Court. I say this because, whether I like it or not, the Constitution says what the Supreme Court says it says.
I do not, under any circumstance, believe we should be allowing guns in schools, however well the intentions.
I resent, however, the looking down your noses on people who own guns or who disagree with me or with most who are posting on this board. I also resent the demonization of the NRA. Finally, I resent the jumping to conclusions that limiting gun or magazine sales, to the exclusion of other factors, will decrease the likelihood of future mass violence.

And my confirming this with the Sidwell families that live near me? Where is the proof that is IS true? Someone posted a link to a job opening for a security position, and even that didn't mention that officers would carry weapons on the job. Just another Breitbart/Savage rumor that snowballs due to right wing internet anger.

Armed guards in schools may be ridiculed by some but, for example, I know for a fact that Fairfax County Virginia, in suburban Washington, has one armed Fairfax County police officer full time at every public middle and high school. The one policeman who is armed at each school is supplemented by several full-time unarmed guards at each school. This is first hand information I obtained today from a recently retired Fairfax County Police Officer who is now a guard at one of the high schools.

Doesn't make the false statements spread by Breitbart any more true.

That's where I got the global warming study from, as well. Really fascinating article.

Yes, the suggestion that he nominate someone to Director of the ATF is just one step closer to tyranny.

I have seen nothing that says the reports of 11 armed guards is not true. Other than your own observation, is there other proof? 4 Pinocchios for a slashing NRA ad on security at Sidwell Friends SchoolQUOTE:But what about the claim that Sidwell Friends has 11 armed guards, which some Web sites have depicted with images of armed police with binoculars?
This is based on the fact that the online directory for Sidwell Friends lists 11 people as working in the Security Department. Five are listed as “special police officer,” while two are listed as “on call special police officer,” which presumably means they do not work full-time. The directory also lists two weekend shift supervisors, one security officer and the chief of security.
Under the District of Columbia General Order 308.7, a special police officer is a private commissioned police officer with arrest powers in the area that he or she protects. They may also be authorized to bear firearms — but it is not required. Security officers, by contrast, cannot carry firearms and in effect are watchman. So five to seven security personnel in theory could be licensed to carry firearms.
But we spoke to parents who said they had never seen a guard on campus with a weapon. And Ellis Turner, associate head of Sidwell Friends, told us emphatically: “Sidwell Friends security officers do not carry guns.”

I didnt find the president's proposal anything terrible. I dont think its the mos effective conclusion, but nothing to get me to riled up. I support stricter licensing procedures for gun ownership. But the root cause to many gun deaths (especially if you include suicides which occur more frequently than gun-murders) are mental health issues. I wish that aspect of this problem was addressed more in the press than it is.
Also, I highly recommend the documentary "Gun Fight". It is an HBO documentary so if you have HBO you can probably find it ondemand and it is on HBOgo also. It explores the changes that have occurred in the NRA in the past few decades. Basically that they went from an organization that was in favor of smart gun control laws to an organization run by fanatics who are against any gun legislation.

All I know is yesterday, the President announced restrictions on guns.
And today, apparently, there is a mountain lion on the loose in Northwest D.C.
Coincidence? I don't THINK so!
