Ok before the firestorm starts.. 1) Hard to believe KJ was hired at Indiana to get Derrickson.. Open up the DMV create a pipeline for takeover kids? Yes probably, but specifically for Derickson, NO. Also don’t think Derrickson is a good fit at Ville or the type of recruit Pitino get’s excited about. Would he take time to recruit a 50-100 kid away from another school when there are so many talents still left on the board that would be perfect for his attacking pressing style? Seems unlikely. Either way the staff is going hard for 2nd 3rd and fourth options so I think we will be fine JT3 and Pitino have a good relationship too. Don't necessarily see L'Ville trying to poach one of our players but if Derrickson de-committed, then yes, they'd probably be in the mix. Keep showing Derrickson love, build a solid class around him, and keep him excited about coming to GU and there shouldnt be a problem. As for Broadus to UMD-- that would really be a slap in the face to JT3 after he helped him get him his first head coaching job and then rehabilitated his reputation. And what, for a little bit more money? On top of that, that money isnt guaranteed-- going to UMD would be risky considering Turgeon is on the hot seat this year. If Turge is let go, Broadus will have seriously burned all his bridges in the local area, not to mention the optics of going from a Nike program to Under Armor. In addition, I get the sense that the relationships between the asst. coaches and with the players at UMD is strained with all the player turnover, the Dalonte Hill fiasco, the dynamics with Juan Dixon, and the annual news of some player who is disgruntled with that staff. I'm just not sure that's a good situation to be going into. And it's been mentioned that JT3 and Turg are friends-- I'm not sure Broadus is worth it to Turg to sour that relationship, especially when he's been recruiting well as is. UMD's problem isn't getting local talent-- it's on the court results. And if that move did go down, forget any possibility of a Gtown-UMD series starting back up, which is what College Park is really after right now. I don't think they'd throw that chance away for an asst coach. Then again UMD has done stupider things.....

inRecruit @inrecruit Apr 21 Video: 7'1 George Papagiannis (2015 C Westtown) back door assist to 6'2 2015 G Bryant Crawford @heyyacee inrecruit.com/ir/uSxaLQ Will be interesting to see if Louisville targets Crawford now with KJ on Board… Doesn’t appear that PG is their priority right now but we’ll see www.verbalcommits.com/schools/louisville

I'd rather he go to MD and see Turgeon get axed after next season than what I'm hearing could be the alternative if he chooses Louisville. Looks like L'ville.. Evan Daniels @evandaniels 4m Kenny Johnson has accepted an assistant coaching position at Louisville, per a source. Cliff Warren, a local who spent Cliff Warren, a local who spent the past nine seasons as head coach at Jacksonville, is a candidate for the assistant coach vacancy at Maryland

Looks like Broadus to UMD is not a worry:
Alex Kline @therecruitscoop 2m RT @goodmanespn: Maryland's Mark Turgeon has hired former Georgia Tech assistant and Jacksonville head coach Cliff Warren to his staff.

Warren was hired as director of basketball operations. They still have an opening for an assistant.

Haha really wish you could be a little more explicit on this deacon (send me a pm?) but I would be completely shocked if that happened for so many reasons. But you would know better than me. From an outside perspective the move not only would make no sense but would be a complete betrayal to the man who gave him a first and second chance.

For all the reasons -- and more -- listed earlier it just seems inconceivable to me. I give this rumor very little credence unless you have it from Broadus directly or something.....

Jeff Borzello ✔ @jeffborzello Follow Rick Pitino and new assistant coach Kenny Johnson sitting side-by-side for the Takeover-Ga Stars game. Johnson a former Takeover coach. - Bryant Crawford, Team Takeover: The Gonzaga Prep (D.C.) point guard emerged as an IU target back in 2012, shortly after Johnson’s hiring in Bloomington and took two subsequent unofficial visits to Indiana, including Hoosier Hysteria in 2012. Reports from a couple of Louisville sites say that the Cardinals are expected to take a long look at Crawford. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged nine points on 33.3 percent shooting in Sacramento. www.insidethehall.com/2014/04/28/recruiting-roundup-indiana-coaches-road-april-evaluation-period/

www.allmetrohoops.com/index.php/component/content/article/87-news-articles/173-crawford-talks-indiana-and-louisvilleHe has played his way into earning scholarship offers from Georgetown, DePaul, Maryland, Villanova, Penn State, Indiana, and Nebraska. He has also picked up interest from UConn, Louisville, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Virginia, and North Carolina State. He talked about schools picking up their interest in him, “A lot of schools are starting to come at me harder now based on coaching changes and the players they are losing.” He listed the schools that are coming the hardest for him at this time are Wake Forest, NC State, Louisville, Georgetown, Villanova, and Indiana. Crawford hopes to announce his decision prior to the start of his senior season, and he plans on setting up his visits soon. He said he likes all 6 of the programs that are coming at him the hardest, “I would fit right in their system and the way I play is what they are looking for.”

New Louisville assistant Kenny Johnson has strong ties to the 6-2, 170-pound Crawford and Rick Pitino watched him closely two weeks ago on the west coast.
“I know they were out in Sacramento and got to see him in the EYBL,” Crawford’s coach, Steve Turner, said Tuesday. “It looks like they’re definitely trying to pick up the pace with him and want to try to get him out there for an unofficial visit.”
Turner said he believes Crawford, who is ranked the No. 12 PG by 247Sports, will visit Louisville in June.
“We’re hoping so,” Turner said. “I think so.”

Thought I'd bump Crawford here/put in a bit of a plug for him. Had never really seen him play healthy until yesterday at the EYBL (had seen him as a just back non-factor getting crushed by Paul VI in early February), and must say I was pleasantly surprised/now see why he had been highly touted. Perhaps a bit more of a combo guard than a pure 1, but that's not a bad thing in my book. Tried to force things a hair too much yesterday (has quite a few turnovers this summer), but I get the impression he is very much trying to MAKE an impression after his lackluster junior year.
