To me, there's two ways we can attract a big time guard again:
A) Take a (tall/athletic) combo guard and offer him something others can't/won't - the ability to play PG. This is what I'd wish we do with a kid like Mostella. (since we don't play a 'traditional PG' anyway.)
B) Take one every 3/4 years and have a ton of PT waiting for him. This might happen even if not by design.

I know the offense doesn't rely on a pure 1, especially in the halfcourt. But we still need guys that can bring it up court when pressured. That guy needs to have the ability to break the press and make a good decision.

my only gripe with Cameron is about his alleged one dimensional game. I have not seen him play, but this is what many have said. I am definitely in the bird in hand group. I think waiting on kids is a mistake, however our last 3 recruits have all been by all accounts defensive liabilities. Now, is this going to be the case when they get here with all of them? I hope not, (and let's not point to Whit, he was/is a HUGE exception to the rule). I loved how good we were defensively this year. We can't afford to have specialists at all positions and no defense. We've seen that formula with the freeman wright years.

My issue with JW3 is mostly because of RDF's analysis. If his skill level is the same as DRoe post injury then I say save the schollie. I know all recruits can't be AAs but a defensive specialist that couldn't score to save his life is not what I want the staff to recruit. I haven't seen the kid play and being the 4th best player on one of these allstar AAU teams isn't necessarily a knock. The 4th best player on Boo's AAU team was Rodney Bullock and the kid can play...............

As much as I respect RDF's analysis, I see little to no simlarity between D. Roe's game (pre or post injury) and that of JW3's. Roe was a back to the basket, high level athlete who used his muscle to create space and who hit the boards hard. JW3 is more of a skilled player who is comfortable facing up and who can play the role of facilitator. He can also stretch defenses and is far better off the dribble. Different players. JW3 is NOT Lamar Odom.....but he has a similar skill set.
We should consider ourselves lucky to land this kid.

That's where he struggled. He can dribble and pass--but this isn't an elite skill set. He's not a threat with a consistent jumper and he's not a great finisher at rim--but he'll go in there. Good role player and if he can develop a jumpshot, that would help his game a great deal. Elite player? That is the message I'm trying to get across. Compare where Williams was ranked entering the Spring/Summer to where he dropped. I wasn't taking a shot at him with the listing of his teammates either--I saw the first EYBL session and most of what I saw played out as it was--Jajuan Johnson had a huge AAU season, Nick King was solid and Lawson really is a talented younger kid. Cameron really struggled to get his shot off against quick guys and was done once they closed on him--can't take anyone off the dribble. Saying he's a liability on defensive end is kind. Too slow to check SF's and not big/tough enough to handle PF's. Good shooter when open--so that was impressive but unlike Otto/Greg--he's a one trick pony. That's my concern--Porter/Whittington are type of wings I really loved seeing program get--because they impact the game in several areas, while Cameron is Scott Wood of NCSU like. Which is fine--as long as you have talent around role player to make him effective. So hopefully Domingo is as advertised, and whomever else they get follows suit--but if someone is expecting Williams to be an elite/star type that can carry a team--that's not his game or his nature.

Is it fair to compare him to Mikael Hopkins?

www.ihigh.com/martinbrothersonline/video_907447.htmlAAU game vs All Iowa Attack Williams is 14 in Green also Akoy Agau is #34 in white. Btw the game has been edited to only show live action so it’s 30 min. His stats from the game were 10pts, 6rbs, 1asst,1block,1stl in 20 min

I see him as a cross between Mikael and Terrence Jones Like that comparison. I think Jones was a bit more explosive, but Williams III has more comfort with ball then Hopkins did and that is like Terence. Good comparison. Somewhere in between. He's going to be a good/solid player. Just didn't see the Green/Monroe/Porter caliber of guy in terms of impact on game which made him a bit of a disappointment when I saw him-because that was the buzz he was receiving, and to JW3 and Bluff City guys credit-they mentioned how poorly they played at that event.

He's engaged the entire game, seems very comfortable with the ball in his hands, and is quick off his feet. From the 10 or so minutes I watched....he looked far more well rounded than Agau.

Agreed...seems like a sure 3-4 year player. Keep in mind hes also probably been well coached his whole life and is probably super coach-able. Even if he doesn't grow, there is always room for a role player that can do a little of everything.

I mean Mason's was the same day, if he was supporting his brother that makes complete sense...I'd be more interested to know if he stopped by at all while he was in town. Guess noone really knows the answer to that one....
