I thought it was known that he was on scholarship. Maybe I am mistaken. This same line of thinking came around the time Patrick Ewing Jr. arrived. Patrick Jr. was on full scholarship and remained so, just like Alonzo III (Trey) is on scholarship. PE Jr. being on scholarship has nothing to do with Trey. Do you have any source that definitively states that he's on scholarship? Or that we did anything to qualify him a "recruited" athlete?

Mourning is a scholarship player and I'd be very surprised if that changes. Why should or would it? Because Alonzo has money in the bank? That's kind of ridiculous. Do you have confirmation or is it a hunch?

Google and prior discussion on this topic are your friend. "* The Hoyas will enter the 2013-14 season with 12 players on scholarship, including freshman Trey Mourning. There had been some speculation of the message board variety that the son of former Georgetown great and NBA Hall of Fame center Alonzo Mourning might not be on scholarship." www.csnwashington.com/ncaa/hoyas-notebook-jtiii-downplays-report-terps-cavs-matchupshoyatalk2.proboards.com/thread/24378/trey-mourning-verbals-georgetown?page=32

See I knew I wasn't crazy Lol! So, it's year to year, i.e. if there's a scholarship open in August, he gets it solely for that year?

Why would that be ridiculous? zo has been very supportive of the university and the program. It's essentially giving the university $50k a year for now 3 years to help the program. Why wouldn't he do it? Not saying he should do it or that he owes to anybody but it's not any more ridiculous than my hoop club donation every year or donating money to the JT Center. Do we have to have this conversation about EVERY SINGLE PLAYER that had a parent play at GU? Jeez.

Thanks for that. DFW got to the right answer with the wrong logic, though.

He has a scholarship this year and all four years. Thanks for your opinion. It's not an opinion. It's a fact. You know JT3 will never pull a scholarship like that.

KC, not one person is suggesting that JT3 would or should pull the scholarship or that Zo SHOULD pay Trey's way. At least not that I've seen. Trey earned a scholarship and he gets to keep it no matter what. The only thing that has been thrown out is that Zo COULD offer to pay for Trey. I see no problem with suggesting that or even JT3 asking Zo to consider it. The extra scholarship would be an advantage to the program and isn't that what donations to the program are about? Supporting the team and helping it get every advantage it can? It certainly wasn't crazy or poor taste to ask former players for a lot more money to fund the practice facility. What's the difference here?

Thanks for that. DFW got to the right answer with the wrong logic, though. What "logic?" I don't think you know the meaning of that word. His logic was that because PE Jr was on scholarship, Trey is on scholarship. The two are entirely unrelated.

So, back to the kid listed in the title of this thread. I'm surprised to see we're after him. After sitting out a year, he would be in the same class as the 2014 recruits. I like that the staff is leaving no stone unturned looking for guards, but not sure about another forward...

It's not an opinion. It's a fact. You know JT3 will never pull a scholarship like that. I don't want to speak for anyone else, but I don't think anyone is really advocating JTIII just arbitrarily yank Trey's scholarship. I think people are just acknowledging the fact that programs will make room for recruits when there is a scholarship crunch. It's not disrespectful or insulting to Alonzo or Trey to discuss that possibility.
