When you repeatedly can't get along with your employers while pulling down huge cash t basically pop off for a few hours a day, it's time to look in the mirror and figure out what your problem really is.

Why? People get giving him lots of money to be Keith Olbermann. However, if you get kicked off of Current TV, there may not be anyone else left to offer you a job. At least he didn't burn any bridges on the way out. ;D As good as The Big Show was, I though the first year or two of Countdown was pretty good too.

Are you disputing that Olbermann is an insufferable EDITED who self-immolates everywhere he works? kc, keep it clean - PS: you really are pushing the limits of the nearly infinite patience of the moderators..... Dang, thought that word would be automatically [EDITED]

Both sides are looking for a fight here and are leaking lots of useless info in the media, from Current TV's lack of technical expertise (Olbermann's show often appeared without a background, reports that the staff lacked toner cartridges for the printers, etc.) to the claim that Olbermann complained that his car service smelled. Olbermann had an eye injury as a teenager and cannot drive, and has been booking car services to his employers for years, which is probably a sore spot for any employer.
More to the point:
1. Current claims Olbermann failed to show up for work on a number of occasions. He claims it was medical.
2. Olbermann claims Current went over his head (he was given the title of "Chief News Officer" by Gore) to hire the other talent on the network.
3. Current clains Olbermann did not promote the other talent enough (he occasionally referred to Current as the "Dumont Network", a reference the doomed 1950's TV network)
Long story short, Current (Gore) knew what he was getting into, but co-partner Joel Hyatt (the TV law firm pitchman from the 1980's) didn't like it, fired Olbermann's ally in the executive suite, and hired a new VP to position the network post-Olbermann, not unlike when WNBC hired John Hayes back in the 1980's to set Howard Stern's eventual departure in motion. For Current's sake, it had better not follow WNBC's fate. Stern moved on to millions with Viacom, while NBC dropped its entire radio network within two years. And really, is there any reason to follow Current without Olbermann? (Any Cenk Uygur fans out there? Didin't think so...)
My guess is that both sides saw this coming and did what they did with lawyers in mind. Expect a lot of public grievances, and a tidy seven figure settlement to follow. Olbermann probably has some rock solid language in that contract for termnination, and Gore simply needs to get all the lawyers in a room and hammer out a deal before he's skunked by Olbermann on the talk show circuit. (He's already booked on Letterman for Tuesday.)

I will miss Olbermann. Given his history, I doubt CNN gives him a shot. Cenk is terrible. Maybe I should pay more attention to Jennifer Granholm. Actually Spitzer is OK. Somewhat dull, though. Maybe Olbermann will start his own network. At least, that way he can't get fired.

There are actually people who watch Current TV? OK. I thought it was a figment of Al Gore's imagination, kind of like global warming and inventing the internet...

Keith Olberman and Al Gore Editeding all over each other and suing for $50 M dollars in court. Now that is high drama I would tune into Current TV to watch Couldn't happen to a nicer couple of just regular guys.

Tangential question about ratings: how do they know how many people watched?

Tangential question about ratings: how do they know how many people watched? A wizard tells them. I believe it involves some sort of dark magic called "statistical sampling." So, like I said, a wizard tells them. ;D

To quote Jim Treacher this morning: "Two other ways Keith is like a chandelier: It’s fun to watch him crash, and most people manage just fine without him in their homes."
