Yeah what that article says to me is that it actually isn't happening anytime soon and Gary is still sticking to his guns on the issue. Of course I didn't listen to the radio broadcast so I don't know the tone of his counter, but the fact that the writer used the word countered instead of joked makes me believe Gary still feels like he's owed a game.

“I think Georgetown and Maryland should play,” Williams said. “I think it will happen, I really do. With me out of there, and the II out of there, I think it’s gonna happen. We played, if you remember, we played at U.S. Air Arena the last game, so that was the sticking point.” No, Gary, that was your sticking point. When Maryland was flush with cash, this wasn't an issue. With the debt on Tyser Tower coming due and tonight's game being the first sellout in 12 games at Comcast Center, suddenly the schools should play.

I seem to remember a few games that came after that--1 in NCAA's another in Orlando when Gary was coaching--so it's not like they never play and honestly-who gives a damn if they play? I could care less about Maryland Basketball. I'm sure their fans feel the same about Georgetown. I'd rather see Georgetown play Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, UNC, Michigan State, etc....then Maryland and I'm sure their fans also feel same for most part.
It's not about fear imo--it's rarely about recruiting-how many guys do these 2 programs reallly go after that both want? Not show interest in--but both want? With Assault having their program funded by Under Armour now--they will get their guys and Georgetown really doesn't pursue any Assault kids anyways these days, so what's the big deal/who does it benefit other then it would give you 1 game in December with students away that would draw nice crowds?

The Hoyas their strong takeover connection and gotten kids that way without assault. Having seen TakeOver and Assault--all I can say is that I hope a new AAU organization is put together. There isn't much in either outfit, I'd waste postage on in terms of recruiting. It's all about the guys who "run things" at both places and focus should be on the players.

Remind me why I care what Gary Williams thinks?
Unless he has advice for getting out chicken wing stains, I'm not interested.

We should do what's BEST for GEORGETOWN - not what's best for the Twerps , the WaPo, Feinstein, and assorted GU haters!

The only reason I could support re-launching the "rivalry" with GWU would be to rub UMd's nose in it.
Heck, I'd almost be willing to support a "DC is our Playground" Big Four tourney, with the four D-1 programs in the District: GU, AU, Howard, and WG.

Fugly has to be banned from the gym, though.
