basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/237460/Pacers-To-Play-Smaller-Next-Season-With-Hibbert-Having-Diminished-RolePacers To Play Smaller Next Season With Hibbert Having Diminished RoleThe Indiana Pacers plan on playing faster on offense next season to contend with smaller and versatile lineups of opponents. Roy Hibbert is the player that will most likely be impacted by the change in scheme. "Possibly," said Vogel when asked if Hibbert will be benched. "Roy's role will be diminished."
Hibbert can opt out to become a free agent."Whatever he does, he does," said Larry Bird. "We'll assume he's going to come back." man, they are begging Roy to opt out, but he'd be dumb to do it and he isn't dumb, so he won't. Roy's offensive game has really regressed and with the newness of verticality wearing off, his "rim protector" reputation has been marginalized somewhat as well. For my money, he's still a Top5 defensive center in the L, but he should take the $15MM this year then find some place to finish his career for 5 years, $50MM or something and he's set for life.

Roy! Roy! Roy! Has the game changed so much in a couple of years, when Roy was an integral part of the Pacers and a valiant rim protector? Roy's numbers seem to have gone done the past couple of years. He had that mind melt in the playoffs and he has not gotten back to his former self. This is the observations of one, who hardly ever watches the NBA games except a couple in the playoffs.

Otto actually getting a lot of second quarter run and doing the things Otto does: rebounds, passes (nice assist to Pierce for a 3), and defense.
Actually playing with Pierce and the offense came back to life.

There's no sugar coating Roy's offensive game - his field goal percentage for a 7'2 man is just pathetic - but the Pacers are not a new starting center away from being a good offensive team. However, they are quite possibly a new starting center away from being a below average defensive team to boot. They need to get younger and better, but you can build around George, Hill, and Hibbert.
Either Larry is hoping to motivate Roy or bully him into opting out. He'll get a decent paycheck if he opts out because he's an elite rim protector, but he's not going to get 15 million.

I'm pretty sure Danny Ainge could find a spot for Roy.

His numbers were mediocre but he essentially played every crucial minute down the stretch. Three huge offensive rebound tips in OT. This he did a lot of small things that the stats don't show. Also broke up the game winning lob at the end of regulation. I was streaming the game from the TSN feed and the toronto commentators were gushing about Otto.

His numbers were mediocre but he essentially played every crucial minute down the stretch. Also played phenomenal defense against Lowry and Derozan, they went a combined 8-30. He worked his tail off on that end.

They could be threatening to bench him the entirety of next season and Falk would probably still take the money. For Roy's sake I hope he goes elsewhere (and I would love to see him in Boston) but I'm not holding my breath.

Watching the Memphis game...reminded just how fluid and graceful and athlete Jeff Green is.
