If the Wizards gave Ariza 4 yrs 32 mil, they would have been crazy. Ernie is learning I see. Considering what other free agents are getting right now, $8M per for Ariza would've been an understandable signing for the Wiz. It would've ensured the starting unit from last season came back in tact and once Otto it was obvious Otto was no longer a bench player, they could've easily traded that contract. Anyway, for those that missed it, NBA TV is re-airing the Wizards SL game from today tomorrow morning at 6 am EST. In short, Otto looked absolutely phenomenal today. He drained mid-range jumper after mid-range jumper, boarded, dished, etc.. He did it all. If he plays anywhere close to this come the regular season, they won't skip a beat. Its not easy trading contracts for players when they have lots of years left. It wouldnt have been easy until year 3 when the tv revenues came in.

Its not the 8m per se its the 4 years. Exactly. The Wiz need to keep flexibility for 2016. (The summer of Durant)

(The summer of Durant) If that was the thinking behind it, then I'm all for it and it makes all the sense in the world. But even still, in the summer of 2016 with two years remaining at $8M per, the Wizards could've moved that contract. All I'm saying.

Great news for Otto. Now he'll get an extended look and time to get acclimated without having to worry about being nailed to the bench. Best of luck to him.

Chris had 6 points and 7 assists in Denver's win.

Today's performance was the best game Otto has played since the big win at the Carrier Dome. Each game after that was understandably less impressive, but culminating in poor (by his standards) games in the BET and obviously the NCAA. Utterly thrilled to see it...he looked poised and confident. With Ariza gone and Webster out for 5 months,,,the small forward job is his to lose.

The Wizards just signed Paul Pierce.. Otto can't catch a break. That old buzzard Whitman really hates Porter.

Not sure it's that bad for Otto - Pierce only averaged 28 minutes a game last year so if Otto plays like he did yesterday he should get plenty of time. Pierce is at the point in his career where he's not going to have the legs to be on every night - you could see that his last year in Boston and this past year in Brooklyn. hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2014/07/13/wizards-sign-pierce-think-durant-in-2016/

It's not even a guarantee that Pierce is gonna be the starter at the 3 and he played a lot at the 4 last season for the Nets in smaller lineups. Regardless, Otto is in line for 20+ minutes a night next season.

Yea I take Pierce signing as an endorsement of Otto more than anything. They are lining up the chips for Durant.

Durant is Durant. You try to get him regardless of who happens to play that position for you unless it's Lebron James. It's not a knock on Otto. The Durant to DC pipedream is also two years away, so Otto has plenty of time to show the kind of player he is in the meantime.

The organization must make the player feel he is wanted and needed while he is here. Whitman would rather put in fake Otto Porter (Garrett Temple) or 80 year old Drew Gooden over Otto.
