watching for 30 years and I wont stop Awesome! I'm very glad to hear it. The perspective of time watching our Hoyas is often needed on this board to balance "the sky is falling" paranoia and the "we're the next great thing" enthusiasm that befalls those of us who didn't have the pleasure of seeing JTII's best teams. Giving that, I'm confused as to why you are not as high on the rest of the team's prospects as Otto's. I think Otto will be excellent, but I couldn't help but think this could be our best defensive team under JTIII with the length and hustle, and to be really excited by the aggressiveness that Jason, Henry, and Hillis showed especially against Memphis, and to see the poise and lack of fear that our youngsters showed like Whittington with that huge putback to tie the game or Trawick and Whittington playing much of OT. Will we win the Big East? No. But I don't think it's out of the question to think we are a Top 25 team after the way we played this tournament and that we definitely will be come Big East time with some really exciting players and a fun more uptempo offense and defense -- we actually ran a press quite often against Kansas -- that's crazy for JTIII. This team only has upside, in my opinion.

True, the Kirby and III did a great job getting him to sign up. But let's be real, had Kirby not known Otto's dad, we never hear about him until he puts up 12 and 7 for KU or Memphis against us this week. Heavy dose of luck hearing about him, and a heavy dose of effort getting him out of there.
That being said, by "steal," I just meant that we got a guy who probably should've been a top 15 player in the class had he played AAU or been in a bigger locale. We signed a stud who was criminally underrated. But tomato tomato, we're quibbling about details.

why won't we win the BE? We have as much of a chance as anyone...Syracuse and UConn are the only two teams out there that have our length and athleticism..maybe Louisville...not saying we will....but we shouldn't be written off as contenders before December

Not saying we should be expected to contend for the BE title, but if this team keeps improving at the current pace... heck... anything's possible. Like most on this board, I REALLY like Otto. SMART is the first thought that comes to mind. Just like Jeff Green -- SMART. We DID Steal a top-15 recruit. Now we need to "steal" a couple more. I think DSR will be a much better contributor than some have been suggesting. But we do need one or two of Noel. Pollard, Gathers.... some really TOUGH kids. And... I'd LOVE to add Troy to this group -- in place of the likely departing Hollis T. BTW, there were a few times in the game that Hollis absolutely TOOK OVER! Oh, and then there's that PG Jordan, and the Euro kid at Findley. I have been impressed by Markel, but we need another. And we are going to need a serious center to play the 5 on this team -- next year! So get it done staff! You have so much to sell!

Glad you added "next year" with regards to center SirSaxa, because we have our man in Henry this year!

I want final 4's and championships. I'm not overly thrilled about finishing Maui with 1 win, but this Memphis win was SWEET. Porter is a fun player to watch.

He's gonna be an absolute nightmare for the dude that draws the assignment of defending him. Kid's gonna beast sooner than later. Love his game already and he's just getting started.

Oops... also appropriate to say well done to the Hoyas staff for landing Otto. Not an all over the radar kid but talk about a kid with skills and an understanding of team basketball? Love his potential and I'm hoping he realizes all of it. Is there anything more fun than that with regard to watching college basketball? Look at where he's starting and think of his upside. It's like big Roy starting as a junior plus. It's why I watch every Pacer game I can. Still love watching him improve. I get the same feeling with Otto from a much higher starting point. Absolutely love this squad.

Given his solid fundamentals, incredible efficiency, and overall heady play, I think it's safe to say that his decision to not participate in AAU and rather stay home to work on his game with his coach and father was a great decision that has prepared him very well for college ball. So excited that he is a Hoya.

IMO, Porter doesn't have to start. He just has to play.

I actually really like it when when porter and whittington come of the bench at the 17 minute mark and spearhead the press. Within the first few minutes of a game, the opponent has to adjust to two totally different looks from the hoyas making it very tough for whomever we are playing to settle in. If it ain't broke....

I think benching Nate would effect his confidence. As others have said, it doesn't matter who starts as long as minutes are being distributed.

What's the point of hoping an elite kid stays 4 years? It rarely happens so why dream about it? If anything it helps recruiting IMO. If these 5 and 4 star prospects see us putting guys in the L on a regular basis that will only entice them to come. The climate of sport has changed. Duke/UNC does a GREAT job of nabbing the 5 star recruits that aren't quite surefire NBA prospects and will stay 4 (maybe 3) years, and the elite one (or 2) and dones. That's kind of how you have to recruit these days if you're a top program (unless you're Kentucky).
I always thought it was ridiculous how some of you on here had in your heads that Greg Monroe was going to spend 4 years here. Just not going to happen with elite lottery level kids.

Interesting bleacher report column from an alum of Otto's high school ("I've known Otto Porter Jr. since he was about 11 years old. I actually coached him for two years, and he lived at the end of my street. We rode to school together almost every day for two years.") and unabashed fan of his. Great history of his basketball lineage and a peek inside why this columnist feels he is contributing so early for the Hoyas: bleacherreport.com/articles/954798-georgetown-hoyas-otto-porter-was-born-to-be-a-star

Otto is playing out of the gate like the experts thought Harrison Barnes would last season for UNC. Of course Barnes ended up struggling his first twenty games instead.

With the competitive drive he shows on the floor and the humble way he carries himself off it, you can't help but root for the kid. For anyone who likes a good basketball read, I would suggest a book David hinted at in the article titled "Show Me Kings." It was written by a former sportswriter in the area and details the Scott County Central Program. www.amazon.com/Show-Me-Kings-Bootheel-Cookson-All-Star/dp/141960337X
