HELL YEAH, HOYAS!!! A historic win during a historic season for Georgetown football. Patriot League title or bust. Now, no trap game... at home on Senior Day... beat Fordham. P.S. Any way we can see some video and/or pictures of this game? I'd be interested to see how it was in the snow. By the way, hate to gloat, but it's in the 70's and sunny right now in San Francisco... Does it still count as a trap game if the result doesn't affect our Patriot League Title chances? I mean this as a serious question - although I realize we still want to win Senior Day, I would think at least one or two of the coaches will be scouting Lehigh starting this week.

Well, we know who's not too impressed with the Hoyas' performance thus far: The Washington Post.
Let's take a look at today's Sports section. Above the fold is a ginormous photo of John Beck, with an accompanying article below, and a story about Tomas Vokoun. Fine. Below the fold, the first part of articles on Navy/Notre Dame and Maryland/BC bracket a central column with four game scores and brief taglines:
Maryland (no score, it just says Maryland) VA. Tech 14, Duke 10 S.C. State 31, Howard 0 Penn St. 10, Illinois 7
So in listing games to highlight on the front page, they picked Maryland (even though there's already an article is immediately adjacent to it), a school hundreds of miles away, a school two states away, and a city school that got blown out.
Even worse, on the back page, we are treated to a good-sized full-color photo of Howard's QB being manhandled, with an accompanying Tarik El-Bashir article on the blowout. The bottom of the page is taken up with an extensive story on Missouri-Texas A&M. Meanwhile, the Hoyas are reduced to a couple of inches in the "Area Roundup" on the inside of the back cover. The entire item is shorter than the photo next to it of a Maryland player doing the "Kate Winslet drawing scene in Titanic" pose in the mud.
If Howard gets an article because it was Senior Day, then there damn well better be a full-color photo and article about the Fordham game next week.

I doubt that the Post sent someone to cover GU playing in a game most people expected them to lose. All the other schools have massive alumni bases. Penn State sold most of FedEx last year for a game against Indiana. There are times to complain about media coverage. This wasn't one of them.

No need to send anyone to cover it - just print the AP story. That's what they did with the Mizzou-A&M game (I know they have huge fanbases, but in the DC area? Doubt they're that big). Penn State has tons of fans here, but so do many other big state schools. If you're going to just run the AP story, which anyone can get anywhere else, why not have it be the one about one of the city teams? How many Penn St. fans are reading the Post for coverage of the game?

Those two schools could be on Mars and there would still be more local interest for that game, if only from casual college football fans, than for the Georgetown game. People are interested in major college football, especially top 25 teams. They are not interested in the Patriot League.

until now problem of dog hasn't been heard from since his negative comments after the Howard win. Now 2 HUGE wins later that POD didn't think we would get....not even 1 much less both (i'm thinking POD was even rooting against us?) and here he is with yet another negative comment. Why don't we just enjoy a great season that none of us honestly expected!!!! WAY TO GO BOY's !!!!!!

You're not going to see big Fordham write ups in the New York Times. Why? Because college football fans generally don't care.

If the Post is going to claim to be a local/regional paper covering local/regional teams, then it should act like it and not merely pay lip service to it once a year. Many area high schools get more in-depth coverage - even outside of football - than does Georgetown (and to a somewhat lesser extent Howard). If the purpose was merely to run articles about the teams with the largest followings, then the Post sports page would look identical to that of USA Today. I "get" why, I understand their reasoning - I just don't agree with it. You're clueless. That was negative? I think it was realistic. You're not going to see big Fordham write ups in the New York Times. Why? Because college football fans generally don't care. The New York Times doesn't even run a separate sports section; they've made it clear that their priorities lie elsewhere.

They've just beaten 2 opponents who 99.9% of football fans who follow the PL would've bet their life savings against, you disappear during that whole time period, only to re-emerge and point out that no one really cares about this stuff, so there won't be coverage?

I "get" why, I understand their reasoning - I just don't agree with it. I agree the Post should be covering GU football, but I doubt that the Post would buy your argument that it needs to be true to it's local identity. I think the folks at the Post are more concerned with selling newspaper subscriptions, and local HS football sells because there is not a national HS football market (no matter how many HS games ESPN airs). On the other hand, there is a vibrant national market for CFB. Should the Post drop its coverage of Afghanistan to cover local PTA board meetings so that it can retain some local flavor? The only reason the Post doesn't look like USA Today is that it has to differentiate its product and offer something to people interested in their local communities. HS football matters to local communities. College football is something most people watch on television for entertainment. The following day's coverage is also entertainment, and the value of such coverage is maximized when all the "big games" from across the country are included. Georgetown probably needs to offer a better game day environment and/or have greater success on the field before the Post starts covering every home game. Let's beat Lehigh and force the WaPo to cover our playoff run. ON EDIT: I should probably add in this thread that my brother in law, a former linebacker for Holy Cross, spotted me 10 points on a gentleman's bet last Saturday. I told him that next season, I'd spot him 10 points, now that Georgetown has a nice winning streak going against the Crusaders.
