I have never seen freshman make a winning impact on any of JT3's teams. None. The closest was Freeman in 2007 when he was inserted into the starting line up half way thru the season. Georgetown has never seen a true impact freshman that can take a team over the top (see Jeremy Lamb). You'd better pay particular attention to Otto Porter this season then.

I'll go further than that. How can someone measure the impact of a player like Jabril on the bench (a la Tyler C.)? Not through the stat sheet. How can you measure the impact of the freshmen as a group? IMO, a change in mentality from what we've had recently equals "a winning impact".

If nothing else, I'm excited to watch a really different and new group of players. It will be extremely fun to watch what I think will be a new-look team different than many JTIII teams we've seen in the past. How will he use the new length? Will Hollis breakout? Will Clark be able to shoulder a role as a go-to scorer? Will Henry finally put it together? Is Otto going to blow us all away? So many questions to be answered. I can't wait.

One thing we know is that this group is battle tested and will battle. I like the cohesiveness too.

No predictions. No expectations. I want to sit back and enjoy this season, and see how far we can go.

hifi, I'd like to drink some of the same kool-aid you are gulping, but I think III will have tough time keeping these freshmen in line, they all are self-centered on a team that requires team thinking ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png)

Inexperience may be an issue worth thinking about for these freshman, but self-centered? No way. I mean absolutely no way.
In fact, I think the most important factor for success this year is a total change from the past few years, where the team was so reliant on individual players to handle specific needs, and the versatility and depth was not there. It is a mistake for Hoya fans to expect Jason Clark and Hollis Thompson to always be the key scorers, or Markel to fill the demands placed on Chris Wright, or Henry or Nate to dominate the boards. This team will be at its best when anyone of three or four guys can get the big basket, or key rebound, or handle the ball under pressure. And the team will live and die with team help defense, whether it is pressure or pack-the-middle zone. No one guy needs to make huge steps up - they all need to take a step forward.
From how these kids acted during the China trip while sharing minutes, I think they have the character to play within themselves and not force things, whether they think they are heading to the NBA or not, whether they are seniors/juniors, or youngsters. Hope JT III keeps running them that way - because it will be a change from prior year's needs and because I think the egos on the team can do it.

I don't really make judgments about trolls, idiots or fans - and I guess ego point really did not need addressing.
But I do think many non-idiots, non-trolls and hoya fans are looking for Hollis, Jason and maybe Henry/Nate/Markel or a particular freshmen to carry loads that others carried in the past. And the real thrust of what I was addressing is that while I think they can have "big" years - it may be best if the team plays in ways where statistics make it look like no one of them is "first team" or even "second team" Big East. Make no mistake, the older guys will have to hit some big shots and get some key rebounds, but I really can imagine this being a team where no on guy gets more than 30 minutes on average, and 10 or 11 guys play at meaningful points during the game.

Good sentiment about trolls and idiots, Kenna. But Skyhoya has well earned that moniker in his time of posting on this board.
Anyway, I'm excited about the depth, the versatility and the athleticism on this team. I like that there is a mixture of seniors (Jason and Henry), guys who have been here and know what its all about (Hollis), guys looking to make that freshman/sophomore leap (Markel, Nate), and a very talented freshman class.
I've seen comments where people are saying freshmen can't lead a team to the promised land. They won't have to on this group. There is plenty of experience on this team. It's a young team, but it isn't an inexperienced team.

Anyone that thinks the freshman are going to help this team win is a blind homer and would jump off the Key Bridge if instructed by JT3. I have never seen freshman make a winning impact on any of JT3's teams. None. The closest was Freeman in 2007 when he was inserted into the starting line up half way thru the season. Georgetown has never seen a true impact freshman that can take a team over the top (see Jeremy Lamb). Every fan should be VERY happy if this team some how managed to get to .500 in the Big East. This is not a good team. Sims is going to get killed all season long in the paint in the Big East. When he is on the bench in foul trouble, who are you going to count on? A freshman? lol. Could get ugly this season. You've been warned. As well as The Handicapped's spot-on predictions. Granted, none of us most likely would have realistically predicted a one-loss OOC result, and we are all optimistic that this team will continue to surpass all predictions. Well done, Hoyas, keep working your tails off and surprise the nation.

FYI - this is the 5th straight year we started 10-1 before the meltdown in post-January.
Can we play diff. this season to prove that we are here for real?

FYI - this is the 5th straight year we started 10-1 before the meltdown in post-January. Can we play diff. this season to prove that we are here for real? It's the fifth straight season we've started 10-1. It's not the fifth straight season we've "melted down." The first team won the BE Regular Season Title, made the BE Title game. The "meltdown" consisted of one loss, to an Elite Eight team. The second team melted down, I guess. Or maybe it just wasn't very good. Either way, it was pretty much all BE season, and the BE was vey tough that year. The third year the meltdown was pretty much getting upset in the NCAA tourney. Last year, we had a losing streak in January, then recovered, then fell apart when Chris Wright went down and Austin Freeman went cold. --- If the expectation is never losing to a lesser team in the BE, that's a little crazy. Right now we're the fourth best team in the BE according to Pomeroy and close to that in AP (maybe fifth?). Over 18 games against a ton of good but lesser teams, you are likely to lose one or two. That's not a melt-down.
