Thanks for the clarification, Biff. Forgot about that.
For the record, my only Communist sympathies lie in thinking The Decemberists are a pretty good band.
Also, apologies to the mods for my uncouth language (not that it's not true).

If the media portrays the Chinese army as the victim in a scuffle between American college students, that would be bizarre

well they have been thus far! deadspin.com/5832159/georgetown-brawls-with-chinese-teamThis is the most widely viewed story up on the issue so far and they, if anything, are tilting in our favor. A random blogger somewhere out there doesn't count, wake me up if Pat Forbe or someone on ESPN moralizes that we have disgraced the country.

possibly the only good thing to come out of all this is that bronxhoya may have been banned from hoyatalk.....hopefully mods weren't making empty threats.
Suspension of password privileges is not a ban. Besides, board issues are between the parties involved which is why it won't be hashed out further in public.--Admin

Can the Chinese army stop Jabril Trawick from tweeting? Not a chance.

Shame on you guys for claiming we should not play in China again. Have you ever played ball? Things get heated and you move on to the next game. This is not some grudge match. Get a grip people.

The most important thing here is safety - our players and traveling group appear to be safe.
With that in mind, I like how the team responded. It is easy for all of us to say we would have gone to the locker room to play Bingo or something. Our guys were there to win a basketball game and had that competitive fire that we've frankly lacked for three years, all with chairs and foreign objects being thrown at them. And, we were tied despite all of the officiating - that is good and hopefully foreshadows success this year.
All of us would have wanted a game to end with a handshake line. That didn't happen. In the absence of that, glad we didn't walk off the floor with our tail between our legs having cowered from an intense game.

Honestly the best thing they can do is just play the next game. Shake hands, apologize (on both sides), and go from there. I hate to agree with Bronx, but he's right about this one. And make sure you have enough security to keep the fans off the court. That's when things get out of hand.
Fights happen in sports.

Agreed that the tour must continue, but this is a bit more than "have you ever played ball?" Have you ever played an international friendly that resulted in the game being ended prematurely and bottles being thrown from the crowd?

It's been two hours since the 6 paragraph account of this appeared here and still nothing from Gene Wang. I realize that he probably has some actual reporting to value add here (quotes, official stats, statements, etc) that we haven't received yet, but this is why newspapers are dying and losing to the internet - we receive a six paragraph account that will probably be better analysis and more context two hours before the actual paper gets it in their web edition.

I am not condoning what took place, but the folks on here that are criticizing the Hoyas players repsonse to what could only be described as an increasing hostile environment should be embarassed. If I was in that situation, where not just the opposing team, but the refs and the fans were becoming more and more hostile towards the the team and coaching staff with no security presence to speak about to protect me and my teammates, I would likely have a similar reaction. I mean the reports indicate an opposing player physically intimidating our head coach? And we are supposed to turn the other cheek and just laugh it off?
Sure I would have rather the team just left the court citing the increasingly unsafe playing conditions, but to blame the players is really hard for me to understand. School image aside, you have to picture yourself in that situation and understand the moment. I am just glad everyone got out of there safe. Hopefully the Hoyas can continue on and finish this tour out quietly.

Agreed. Unless of course the Chinese government is making things difficult for him somehow--nah, couldn't be.
