"There also may be reason for Georgetown fans to get excited. As first mentioned on the Hoya Talk message board, Mourning clearly has a bond with his father's alma mater. After the Hoyas were knocked out of the 2011 NCAA tournament in the first round, the younger Zo offered up the following tweet on his since deleted Twitter profile: It's been a rough ride these past few days, but I still keep my head up Thanks for everything @sugarfree_15, @cwright_4, etc. 4evr HOYA SAXA If that isn't a strong indication that Mourning is about ready to commit whenever (or if) a scholarship is ever sent his way, we're not sure what is. At the same time, it's definitely still too early for anyone to turn the new Mourning into his more successful father.” ca.sports.yahoo.com/highschool/blog/prep_rally/post/A-new-Alonzo-Mourning-lighting-up-South-Florida-?urn=highschool-wp9627#Edit DH already posted..

I don't know if you missed the PE Jr. discussion a few years back, but this exact same topic has come up before. The only thing is, most of the board had it wrong. If he doesn't take an official visit, he could come as a non-scholarship player that wouldn't count against our numbers. This is how Lane Kiffin has helped work around his scholly limits at USC, recruiting kids from well to do families who can pay their own way but who would be scholarship players at other PAC-12 schools. Tommy Tuberville did the same thing at Ole Miss when he first got there.

That being said, seems like Mourning's kid should get a scholarship. Maybe there's scholarships available for the board of directors' kids?

I think the Drummond situation has proven that scholarships are a highly fluid thing. Where there is a will to get around the rule, there is a way.

Maybe there's scholarships available for the board of directors' kids? I thought it was enough to just give them a pass on admissions given our LONG-TERM problems.

Couple things: 1) This is a good read on Trey's upcoming role for his senior year. Cool tidbit: he's the senior class president: sfhighschoolsports.com/blog/homepage/he-got-next-trey-mourning-ransom2) What does everyone make of the fact that there's so little info on Trey in terms of recruiting. Is it the fact that he doesn't play AAU? Or is it because he's heavily leaning Georgetown and other schools can sense it?

I was under the impression that it's because he's not ranked highly and isn't being heavily recruited. However, I could be completely wrong about that.

After seeing the sons of Dell Curry, Tim Hardaway, Glenn Robinson, etc blossom into NBA players, I am fairly certain colleges won't turn a blind eye to the son of Alonzo. Especially when the guy is 6'9 (with the potential to be 7 foot) and has some great shot blocking timing.

Seems to me that Trey will still walk on to the team in 2014, right? He may take some development, but I'd love to have him on board and see Zo in the stands more often. I also think he will develop into a real contributor over 4 years.

Just look at the tape and look at our staff; he'd be an impact player year 3/4. I really hope he comes.
