Hoyas have to cut the head off of the monster right from the start and that player's name is Peyton Siva, he's the playmaker and took Louisville to overtime driving to the basket. I think one of the best ways to stop him is to make him change directions and if he breaks the second option would be to take charges on him. Louisville has been playing pretty tough as of late. Do they have any more gas left in the tank...hmmm we'll see :0) glidehoyas.blogspot.com/2011/01/cardinals-fly-up-east-coast-to-take-on.html

scores.espn.go.com/ncb/preview?gameId=310310046Ricky P after UCon win: "I thought I saw it all with Marquette, saw it all even with the last game. But this game, for me, is the capper of the season for us right now. Now we have to get Georgetown." I believe that is a typo - I think he really said "Now we have to get Georgetown'd"

Yahoo BoxYahoo Recap (AP)Excerpt Wright, who was held scoreless in the Hoyas’ win at then-No. 8 Villanova on Saturday, went 8 for 8 from the free throw line, including making two with 4.4 seconds left that forced the Cardinals to attempt a 3-pointer to tie. Peyton Siva, who had perhaps his worst collegiate game, dribbled down the court and missed from the top of the key at the horn. Great D on Siva -- CW, JC and MS

A photographic breakdown of Georgetown's pick and roll defense, from Ballin' Is A Habit. EXCERPT:What Louisville likes to do offensively, especially when it gets to be late in the shot clock, is to run a guard off of a high ball screen and spread the floor with three shooters. They have different variations and different reads, but essentially what Rick Pitino is looking to do is to get a one-on-one situation in the middle of the floor, whether it is Siva attacking with the dribble or Terrence Jennings sealing in the post. Louisville used that high ball screen when Siva scored the game-winner against West Virginia. They used it almost exclusively down the stretch against UConn, when the Huskies were incapable of keeping Siva out of the paint.
Georgetown won because they were able to stop it.

I'm not a frequent poster at all, but as a GU alum with Kentucky roots, needed to weigh in on this one and show you all a brief sampling of the Kentucky media hoops hysteria. (To my biased eye, some of it is sublime and some of it is beyond ridiculous.) According to Eric Crawford, who I believe is one of the two regular hoops columnists in the Courier Journal, the loss had everything to do with Louisville miscues and not much to do with Georgetown. www.courier-journal.com/article/20110131/COLUMNISTS02/301310141/1002/sports/Eric+Crawford+|+Rick+Pitino+raises+a+racket+%E2%80%93+and+the+barI am really (grudgingly) impressed with what the Cards have been able to do this season, but the odd post-game message of hubris from Pitino seemingly saying that they're their only true obstacles to greatness is just weird. In the Big East? Really? I think it's important to recognize when you were flat out beaten in a closely fought contest--which is what happened in the game I watched last night.

I'm fine with Pitino's good/great speech to his team. It also applies to us. If we want to be great, and not just good, we need to be consistent and cut down on mistakes like our 16 or so turnovers per game, losing focus, rebounding assignments, etc... no matter how the other team is playing you. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Fair enough, prhoya. You make good points. I do think Louisville's "mistakes" had more to do with our defense than anything else last night, but you're right, it's a good and correct motivational angle.
