Apologies - time to get the eyes checked. Nonetheless, I am not sure my position changes all that much. www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/creditableDefinitions 1 and 2 are laughable alongside Fox IMO as discussed, but I cannot argue with #3. They sell a product and do a heck of a job with it, as Ed's numbers reflect.

Here's how the ratings stand: CABLE NEWS RACE THURS. JAN. 20, 2011 FOXNEWS O'REILLY 2,918,000 FOXNEWS HANNITY 2,079,000 FOXNEWS BAIER 1,940,000 FOXNEWS SHEP 1,786,000 FOXNEWS BECK 1,780,000 FOXNEWS GRETA 1,460,000 MSNBC OLBERMANN 1,106,000 CNN PIERS 1,025,000 MSNBC MADDOW 976,000 MSNBC O'DONNELL 855,000 MSNBC SCHULTZ 760,000 CNN COOPER 740,000 MSNBC HARDBALL 700,000 American people seem to like Fox News pretty well. You do realize that leaves about 300 million Americans who have the good sense not to watch any of that crap, right? Thank God for that. This. And don't give me any nonsense about Americans being disinterested in the issues, either . ;D

FWIW the NY Times has a circulation of about MSNBC's Odonnel and the Washington Post has a circulation significantly less than Hardball. The WSJ is about Hannity level. IIRC the network news is only about 10 M or so. Could be off but still a small percentage of the US population.
Point being that comparing the impact of a news source to the actual population is really not relevant. there is no doubt that the NY Times and Washington post set the agenda for the left side of the debate in a way much larger than their circulation and that Fox News is a big contributor to the right side of the debate far in excess of its circulation.

Is that channel broadcast in America? Or is it some pirate station run off a ship by Phillip Seymour Hoffman?

When I first heard about the Current deal, it was a head scratcher...until the reports that Olbermann was offered equity and the chance to be his own boss. For a reporter who has torched his bosses over the years more than Howard Stern ever did, it's the closest thing Keith will ever get to a free ride from management.
And yes, Current TV battles with test patterns for ratings right now, and other recent anchor moves didn't change the numbers appreciably (anyone watch Ted Koppel on Discovery or Dan Rather at HDNet?), but any, any movement that Olbermann engineers upward for Current could be very lucrative. If Comcast chooses to reposition MSNBC to the political center, the financial beneficiary could be, well, Keith Olbermann.
