To name a few: Amazing summers, lots of lakes, no Syracuse University and most of the 1980 U.S. Hockey Team, whose captain scored the winning goal against the Soviets and was/is from MA Fixed.

I remember one game in the Dome - think it was against SJU or Cretin Hall - where they played despite a leak in the roof. They ran mops/towels out on the floor during stoppages and changes of possession. This had to be like 10-15 years ago - one of those storms that was appropriately titled "Blizzard of X."

Actually, those in warmer-weather climates are winning that argument. Sometimes the only way to win is not to play. Does it count as warmer-weather climate if the coldest winter one ever spends is a summer there?

It's going to be in the 80s in LA today. I'm finding this exchange extremely amusing.

Here's why the DOME collapsed: Excerpt After the Dome’s Teflon roof collapsed three times from 1981 to 1983 because of heavy snow, the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission adopted a twofold strategy to prevent future occurrences, according to the executive director Bill Lester. Whenever snow built up, hot air was pumped into the space between the roof’s two layers. Workers also climbed on the roof and used steam and high-powered hot-water hoses to melt snow.
That method proved effective until Saturday night, when dangerous gusts forced workers off the roof, Lester said. Snow breached the roof at about 5 a.m. Sunday.
“The confluence of high winds and the snowfall was the worst of all possible scenarios for us,” Lester said.
With Their Dome Deflated, the Vikings Still Need a Home Oh, and of course the REAL MVP of the '80 Olympic Hockey team was goalie Jim Craig, who went to BU and was a native of Massachusetts.

Isn't it obvious that the reason the metrodome collapsed is because the Vikings want a new stadium and this helps further their cause?* I don't mean to sound conspiratorial but that city does have a track record, don't you know.
*For example, WTF was last night's makeup game played in Michigan rather than at the perfectly nice new Gopher Field? Oh, because the Vikes and their political cronies can't let their dimwitted citizenry catch on to the fact that the two teams could realistically share the same venue at no extra cost to the taxpayer....

They also played the game in a dome because the Giants did not have outdoor gear with them.

Wait, are you saying that MN let the bridge collapse b/c the state wanted a new one? Do you also believe that 9/11 was an inside job? And is it possible that the reason they didn't play at Gopher Field was because of legitimate logistics problems? I'm not surprised that they decided to play at a stadium that hadn't been shut down for the winter, wasn't covered in 20 inches of snow and could actually be ready for the game. Also, it looks like they could play at TCF Stadium this week since they have enough notice: www.twincities.com/news/ci_16847506?source=rss&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&nclick_check=1It also looks like the

Another critical factor in where to play the game would be TV coverage. It takes days to set up a Stadium for a game... a stadium that is not currently being used, that is. Detroit had a game on Sunday. And it was on FOX... same network that carried the Vikes v Giants game. Not suggesting Detroit was the only place, but it would certainly be preferable to a snow covered college stadium in MN. Just clearing the snow away is a huge job. Running miles and miles of cable, in the snow? in time for a 7:30 PM hard start? Highly unlikely. Giants stadium, on the other hand, should have been a piece of cake.

If being in the middle of finals can be considered "alive". ;D And the reason the game wasn't at the Giants' stadium is that they have already gotten an extra home game due to a wrecked stadium, so they'd filled their quota for the decade.

The other reason is that the New Meadowlands was still being deodorized after the steamer the Jets laid on Sunday afternoon.

They also played the game in a dome because the Giants did not have outdoor gear with them. Because, as we all know, there's no place in Minnesota to procure outdoor gear.
