So, the SF contingent (SFO, McBricks, myself, possibly a couple of others) are heading to Charleston this year as our away road trip. So I thought I'd make a roll call thread (so chime in!) but also: - Solicit ideas for places to go out / touristy stuff we must not miss
- Generate ideas for places to meet up before or after the game, since it doesn't look like there will be official HHC events
So, who's going? And who knows Charleston?

Four Georgia Club members will be coming in from Atlanta for the Thursday and Friday games. We know Charleston pretty well and are laying out our plans tonight. Let me know if you want some thoughts on where to eat, what to do and where to stay (if not already decided).

I think this marks the 5th in our annual roadtrips - Oregon, L'ville, Milwaukee, Anaheim, now Charleston... Calls for a little extra celebrating. Looking forward to this.

In the event that you guys actually want to cut the beer with some food, this Chowhound thread should be helpful: tinyurl.com/2wcwu45/

We're planning on staying downtown, fairly close CoC and the area around King and Broad and all that. But any advice on where to be, what to do, where to drink and eat is appreciated.

Oregon - Louisville - Alabama - Milwaukee - Anaheim and now Charleston. Combined record: 6-1, with the 1 being Milwaukee where only two of us went. Six and zero when we have at least three. Time to keep up the streak.

Lot's of great restaurants, including Husk which just opened. Chef is big time supposedly. Magnolia's is another good restaurant, as are Oak and Halls which are both steakhouses. Lots of great bars/pubs/restaurants around the Market area, very easy to walk from market area hotels to many of these places. Next to C of C "arena" is a dive bar called Burt's Alley that is supposed to be a good time. A high school class mate of mine is part owner of a bar called The Chart, which is supposed to be a good time as well.

In addition to old town Charleston, tourist attractions include the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown with the Medal of Honor Museum aboard. It's across Ravenel Bridge from Charleston. Then there's Fort Sumter in Charleston harbor. And, for Georgetown students there's several AA meeting places in the area.

I didn't realize the Yorktown was there, but I'm definitely hitting Sumter.

Ravenal Bridge? As in Gaylord Ravenal, riverboat gambler? Pretty interesting that Charleston named a bridge after a character from Showboat. ;D
More seriously, I think you road trippers should definitely seek out Easy Ed. It's not every day you have an opportunity to caucus with the most senior Hoyatalk member, and I hope you'll show him the proper respect (and help him with his walker, if necessary).

The day Hoya Talk members show me respect will be the first time. I'm an honery old fart but, thanks to God, no walker required yet. I'll be there for at least one game so if any of you see a slim 6'4" guy with an original WAG shirt and a white Hoya cap on accompanying his lovely wife and, probably, a very pretty daughter and her son and a son-in-law - well, that's the one and only me.

After 3 months of dating a Charleston native here's what I've picked up:
- There's a big bridge that spans some sort of bay
- ....
- The "low country" food is pretty tasty

Couple of suggestions. Corny as it may sound the walking tours around historic Charleston are really the best way to see it and a lot of fun to do. Add that to the trip to Ft Sumter. Also, when you are looking for a place to stay look at the bed and breakfast sites more than the hotel sites. The 2 major hotels are the Omni and Francis Marion. B&Bs are a much better option.
Also even in Nov the weather shouldn't be too bad and if you are a golfer there are some great courses around. Look down at Kiawa and play one of their courses including the Ocean Course which has kicked my butt royally before.

I'll be there taking in all the games with several other Hoyas currently residing in Charleston. Also planning on going to the HHC club reception after the game on Thursday.
For bars, they suggested Blind Tiger on Broad between Meeting & East Bay: "Would be a great meet up place for visiting hoyas. Especially visiting Hoyas looking for a nice southern lady." For restaurants, "the options are endless and endlessly good, but if I only had 1 meal in Charleston and it had to be on the penninsula, it would be at Hominy Grill."
