The timing of the raid makes sense that the operation was planned well in advance. Police like to do drug raids when the chance that the dealers are asleep and won't be waiting with loaded guns are greatest. These kids are lucky* that they didn't have a pet dog with them too. *In a relative sense, I imagine Mr. Smith is going to do some time and Romano even without being charged might still get expelled and have this follow him.

Dan.. I only read the Post story you linked and one other, but I didn't read anything about a long term investigation. The Post said: the case began to unfold early Saturday, when a campus police officer saw a student standing outside Harbin Hall smoking what the officer thought was marijuana. After being confronted, the student said the substance was "K2," or K2 summit, a product known as "synthetic marijuana" that is sold in head shops.
When the officer asked where the student had obtained the substance, the student led the officer to Room 926, the official said. He said the investigation proceeded from there, resulting in the three arrests and the evacuation of about 400 people. It still sounds like the kids -- from a Tony Boston suburb -- are in a heap of trouble. Although, only one kid from GU and his pal from U of Richmond.

So...you're smoking a "legal product" but you take the officer to the illegal place you bought it?
Also, they were not in process of cooking anything...
This really seems highly blown out of proportion (not saying its not a big deal though)

I only meant to state that, contrary to initial reporting that suggested "someone smelled something" leading to an immediate evacuation, it seems that what really happened was the police got a lead that a dealer(s) was operating out of 926 and made plans to raid the room. Sorry to mislead you with "well before" - perhaps this clarifies it. Dan P.S. - you really distinguish yourself with your highlighting of the kids' home town. Has the Yankees' implosion caused such internal distress that you've abandoned all self-restraint?

Now I'm curious if someone on the floor snitched on them.

It was a kid smoking K2 (legal synthetic marijuana) outside of Harbin that snitched

Am I the only moron that had no idea what either DMT or K2 was? There was a girl on my freshman floor that dropped acid constantly but at least she had the sense to buy it somewhere else.....
I can't imagine these kids not getting expelled. I remember having to do hours for pouring salsa on a friend in the shower as a joke. Though, to be honest, I also pulled the sulfuric & sugar and cleared out a few rooms in White Gravenor. In my defense, my TA sorta egged me on. Thanks Jenner.

Apparently people want to transfer from Georgetown because of this? www.thehoya.com/news/Bonding-Time-Anxiety-10261077/"Sadly, a few have requested their final grades in order to transfer from Georgetown. Some Harbin residents have asked to be moved to a different dormitory." Are you really kidding me students? I can understand some overprotective parents want their kids moved to a different dorm but a different school? You think this doesn't happen at other schools? Seriously, one of the suspects was from a different school and it sounded like he actually brought the chemicals. You should be lucky that Georgetown actually caught the kids.

I couldn't figure out from the article whether it was the typical freshmen who have a hard time first semester and think of transferring, or really some overreactive nutjobs. I think in reality it is probably the former.
The author made a good observation that this is the sort of thing they'll look back and laugh about at their reunions 24 years from now, I thought that was an astute point coming from a freshman.

Freshman year can be rough on a lot of kids, myself included. One or two "WTF?!" incidents, and it's very easy to start seeing the grass greener on ANY other side. I bet most of these kids (at least the ones whose parents don't overreact) will tough it out, find their niches, and come to realize that Georgetown is much much MUCH better than the all-star team of drug pushers, g/f abusers, and porn stars that seem to have assembled on Harbin 9. (Seriously, how did all of them end up on one floor? Really crazy coincidence.)

Heck, I bet my ex-Harbin 9th floormates (co-ed floor: one cluster for boys, the rest girls) are going to laugh about it in our class reunion this June. Compared to these kids, we were a pretty boring group.

K2 (legal synthetic marijuana) wait this exists? Does it work? If so why does anyone bother smoking weed anymore? If you could do the same thing legally seems like a no brainer unless it's prohibitively expensive.

There are a number of negative side effects not found in natural marijuana. There's even anecdotal evidence that it's actually physically addicting, which pot is not.

Weed is THE natural drug...it just seems sacrilegious to have synthetic weed.
Especially since it grows like a weed

Assuming this is related to the events of the weekend - No wonder a bunch want to transfer...they may be read their rights. There is probably only one way to attack the problem now, which is to get to the bottom of who was involved and get them before judges and juries.
I wouldn't be surprised if the guys pulled in over the weekend are trying to ding down charges through cooperation.

According to the Voice's twitter, 2 more male students and 1 female student arrested tonight. Was Harbin Hall some sort of Hamsterdam* before this? * Hamsterdam : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamsterdam

OK wait, was she just smoking pot in the dorm? I am as anti-drug as anyone you'll ever meet, believe me. But the University also can't allow this event to turn the campus into a police state. Are cops going to be called in now on petty offenses that in the past have just resulted in DPS sharing people's weed? (Believe me, that happens/happened.)
If this keeps up, I would have transferred too. As usual, I think the University has handled this whole thing horribly.
