McPhee still seems to be in Boudreau's corner.
Sharks have sure looked good.

There are a lot of owners/GMs in the league who would have already pulled the trigger on Boudreau. But Leonsis and McPhee might be the most patient owner/GM combo in the league (when you discount owners who don't care about winning). I'd be shocked if they fired Boudreau this offseason.

Sweet, sweet, sweet revenge! Sorry, I have not been able to post here for mojo/superstition reasons, but man, this feels so good. You have no idea how good. So much for chalk in the East. Yes, it is 5:30 in the morning. No, I am not even the least bit drunk (or otherwise altered). This was so much better to savor without any of that. Jebus, did I just say that?

Source: Bergeron has concussionVery bad news as Bergeron was the best all around player for the Bruins this post-season (his faceoff win percentage was insane), but it looked like this was the case last night when it happened. Time for the rookie to shake the dust off and come into the lineup.

Couple thoughts on Patrice Bergeron: 1. Contrary to what Peter Chiarelli is saying, this was not a late or borderline hit. It was a perfectly clean open ice hit and Giroux was doing his job. Bergeron should have had his head up. The Bruins pounded the Flyers repeatedly throughout the series with clean hits like that one when the Flyers had their heads down & Bergeron should have known better. When Randy Jones knocked Bergeron out for a season a couple years ago, that was NOT a clean hit. This one was. 2. Bergeron's previous concussion is (sorry, previous two concussions), I believe, really the only reason the Bruins are being so careful with him now and not saying anything. And that makes sense. If this was a player who had never had a concussion before, I doubt it would even be much of an issue. But in his case, obviously, they have to be very careful. 3. I do think Bergeron is going to play again this postseason but, even though the layoff right now is killing me, I am now 100% rooting for both Western conference series to go 7 games (huge comeback by the Wings last night. That was awesome!). 4. The NHL totally needs better helmets for the players. This is a no-brainer (sorry for the unfortunate pun). Their helmets are way too loose and there's not even close to an adequate level of padding in those things. Supposedly, Mark Messier has been working on this ( themessierproject.com ), but it needs to happen yesterday.

Actually, I think it's going to make for an outstanding second round. Boston-Philly rematch after last year's (unfortunate for some) history making series). Caps vs. a division rival (though I was hoping for Caps vs. Pens maybe with Crosby, which would've been great). Detroit-San Jose should be epic. Vancouver? Who knows. I still think they're the best team in the league, but they haven't quite played up to that and Nashville is no slouch. Agree w/you to a large extent, but I think we're looking at chalk in the East, and two 'upsets' in the West. San Jose didn't impress me at all in the last round against a not-full Kings squad. Add in the fact that Detroit's healthy and rested, and I think this series is over in 5. Vancouver, I think, was exposed by Chicago in the last round. Add to that the weight of Canada and Canucks history, and I think Nashville wins in 6. Wow. Good thing I didn't back up the bluster with any bets in Vegas. Would have made for an ugly trip home. Just goes to show that last year's revelation that playoff experience in net was not a huge deal may have been an aberration.

Guess I spoke too soon on the Sharks. Can these guys handle the pressure?

Guess I spoke too soon on the Sharks. Can these guys handle the pressure? History would say "Absolutely not," but I have a funny feeling they might still pull it out. Don't ask me why, it's really nothing more than a hunch. And it's not really based all that much on Game 7 being at home. Not really based on anything. Regardless, a couple of outstanding performances by Detroit in the third periods of Games 5 & 6, after throwing out two clunkers in the first two games of this series. Having been in this position just last year, and having that scenario go just as badly as humanly possible, I really do feel empathy for Sharks fans. I know your angst, believe me. On the other hand, I can't root for Joe Thornton, so I guess the best I can say is I don't think it will matter, because I still don't think anyone in the West is getting by Vancouver. (I would say anyone in the NHL, but I can't quite bring myself to do it). EDIT: Just looked at the home page of nhl.com, saw the words "Don't Stop Believin'" and pretty sure I now hate Detroit. So, despite Joe Thornton, I guess I'm pulling for the Sharks.

When Vancouver plays at their best, just forget it.
No one can even touch them.
Fortunately for those teams still alive, they haven't consistently been playing at their best. But San Jose was definitely standing on the tracks last night.

As someone on NHL Netowrk said last night, "Hey, Reebok! There's your next commercial." (or words to that effect, I was pretty tired)

God, I love hockey!
(On a side note, though, does anyone know how Darren Pang could have covered the league for as long as he has done and still be an idiot who doesn't even know the rules?)
.....well, endings like that aren't all that great though. Kind of a shame to end on a fluke like that.

Mr. Luongo, since when does the crease extend to the blue line?
Props to Joe Thornton for playing with a separated shoulder, although you could clearly see he was not himself.

You need a defibrillator, Boz?
Some 0-0 games are boring as hell. This is not one of them.

Just finished watching the replay after attending game 7. Wow, what a draining, phenomenal hockey game. Supremely jealous you were there. I was freaking out, and I was just sitting at home. But what a wonderful, glorious game. Huge chances by both sides, no penalties all game, Steven Stamkos reminding everyone what it means to be a hockey player....and of course, the good guys pulling it off with under 8 to go. Objectively, I have to say, Boston's got a huge task ahead. Vancouver can literally overwhelm teams. Good teams. They are sick, scary good. But that's why they play the games. GO BRUINS!!!
