JTIII doesn't script the rotation. He plays different combinations and then rides the matchups that are working best in that game. The problem has been that for two years he hasn't had a defensive stopper lineup for o/d subbing or for keeping a game close when the o struggled.

The key, I think, isn't whether Jason/Austin or Hollis plays the 3, I think the question is whether Hollis is playing any PF.
A 1-2-2-4-5 lineup isn't that bad, in my opinion.

I agree with TBird. Based on Kenpom's numbers, it's not at all clear Jason is even a worse rebounder than Hollis. The question is whether Hollis can hold down the 4 for any significant period of time and I'm inclined to say not unless he has gained a ton of weight. But we will probably play some teams where we can get away with it, and since it allows us to put our 5 best guys on the floor at one, I hope we see it in spurts.
Still thinking Hollis is first off the bench, with Nate or Henry starting in the front court.

agreed.
I don't think Hollis at the 3 is much better/worse defensively or rebounding-wise than Clark at the 3 (or anybody else we could put at the 3).
but having Hollis at the 4 instead of Sims/Lubick/etc would be much worse defensive and rebounding-wise. that's the question

Hollis put on a lot of muscle working out, not quite ready to be a BE 4, but if he doesn't come out will be there next year..

Hollis Thompson will NEVER be a PF in the Big East conference-that is not just absurd thinking--it's without any concept of basketball. What about his game speaks to him playing power forward? If anything--he should be a 2G the way he plays.

At this point, we probably should identify the topics that will consume this board in season. The Hollis as PF debate, I predict, will be this season's major board debate.
It is just gruesome to even imagine Hollis Thompson playing the 4 at the BE level. We might as well go to a Grinnell strategy if he's going to play the 4. We can get a stop at halftime and the final buzzer, but that's about it.
Who will jump center? Hornswaggle?

Love the different points of view on Hollis, he looks like Jeff did going into his sophmore season, only Hollis has a better outside shot. If Henry returns to his tomb, who will play the 4? the answer is Hollis and Nate. There are plenty of minutes to go aroiund to back up Julian for Moses , Hank and the rest of the committee.
Now, if Henry does want III wants him to do and performs, then he will be the other big and Hollis will be the sixth man.

The stars tonite at Kenner was JB in the first game and Hollis in the second game. I grumpy old men @ Kenner think that the 4 spot is JB's to loooooose, with Hollis coming off the bench. The little freshman girls obviously love Aaron.

You beat me to it Sky, Jerelle was great tonight.
Hollis did a lot of ball handling tonight. If he can't play the 3, I wish he was getting time at the 2 not the 4.

KG, do we have a Magic Johnson in the making? I never thought about Hollis dxriving and finishing before. He looked good last night. Everyone forgets, he's only going into his sophmore year. III will play his best 5 players, who's the fifth?

JB played the first game and the Tombs played the second game- Tombs are the four freshman AF and HT. It was the JB show in the first game and everyone did Ok for Tombs, but HT played like a two sometimes and like four other times.

What do you mean by the JB show? Who did they play and did he have significant opposition? Not to rain on any parade here but JB needs to show an offensive game away from the basket to be able to tae the next step beyond being a 5-10 minute player.

I missed the first game, but in the Tombs game, Hollis looked very good as mentioned above. He was dribbling a ton at points, and he seems to have tightened up his handle considerably (brought his dribble much lower to the floor, a la Jason Clark's early improvement last year). Confidence was sky high as well, and he finished against little and big guys, albeit mostly from Bowie State.
Definitely a summer vs. regular season shift was in effect, but Tombs (especially Markel) were looking to run at every opportunity, and they finished many of those opportunities.
Markel looked good, Austin looked like he could finish any time he wanted to. Nate and Aaron both were good in spots. Moses needs some work.
One personal highlight was a lightning-quick entry pass from Markel on the perimeter to Bowen, who had been sneaking through on a classic backdoor cut, and finished the play nicely. Bowen was the recipient of a number of great assists, mostly finished with two-handed jams.
Tombs won by a score of around 73-55, although if they had finished better than what seemed like 12-25 from the FT line, it would have been even less of a contest.

JB finished very well around the rim, had a few drives to the rim, and made some outside shots including a 3. He also did a good job when he was guarding Vaughn.

I only saw the 2nd half of the first game. Jerelle played well, including some rebounding and defense on Julian. Julian was double teamed much of the time but still got some points and strong boards. Vee ran the point for Clydes and handled the ball well but didn't get many shots.
In the 2nd game, Austin looked like he could do pretty much what he wanted. He seemed to be working on his fall away. Hollis had a good all around game, including handling the ball when Markel went to the bench. Moses had trouble holding the ball and couldn't defend the Bulldogs' big guy. To be fair, there was not much interest in defense in general. Nate had some nice moments. Markel showed a good handle but got himself into trouble a few times trying to dribble through double teams. The game was close most of the way, but the Tombs pulled away near the end.
