rooter,
It'a just my opinion. I prefer east coast kids for hoops cause:
A. I'm from the east B. Westerners are notoriously soft for hoops C. Wesley Wilson soured me on them
As an aside, I like Hollis alot. He needs to attack the rim more though.

I think this "soft" rap is bogus. You shouldn't let Wesley's failures taint your view of an entire state. And by the way, I don't "prefer" California kids - I just don't think they should be singled out as being lesser players than those from other regions.

It's true that you can't say that all Cali recruits are soft. Plenty of examples of great college players from California.
That said, I think JT, Jr.'s first recruit from California was a pretty big bust - I think he ultimately transferred. Kevin Floyd? Must have been late 1980s early 1990s. Does anyone remember the name/story?

Was a freshman on the team that lost to Nova. Believe he left and went to Cal-Irvine.

Id's weird inconsistency and almost illogical dislike of the West Coast is well-documented. SoCal is one of his favorite players, for example. But I think the spectre of Wesley Wilson has ruined California for id forever.

RDF,
I don't like those dudes either. As noted above, SoCal was my man! I liked BB's skillset and athleticism, but was frustrated by his inconsistency. WW same thing.
That said:
I like Hollis I like SoCal Paul Pierce is a killer I like Tyson Chandler now that he'll be a Knick Jason Kidd was nice in college and a HOF'r in pros.
Again, grew up in the DMV, so I'm a east coast guy.
As an aside, I prefer old school east coast hip hop too!

I'll say this: 1. Noel-cause he's the best shot blocker in a while. Developing offensive game. Wiry strong. Program changer. 2. Williams- cause he's top 10 and auntie is the women's hoops coach and Boo are close to program. Athletic beast, but UK or UNC may be too tough to turn down. 3. Jordan-cause he's a need, tight with Jabril and Philly tough. Also, he's 6'4. 4. Meeks-cause he's mentioned Hoyas a fav growing up and is a Mourning fan. Need to lock him up and not stall him. 5. Gathers-cause he's an impressive specimen who attacks the glass and is from fertile recruiting ground for Hoyas. Hoyas may be too late. 6. Domingo-cause he can stroke it and folks are big on academics. Hollis clone. West coast kid. Not big fan, but he can shoot. 7. Pollard-cause Kirby is on the Mississippi kid and he's a freaky athletically. Versatile. Prolly wants to stay in the south. 8. Parker-cause he's as fluid a big as I've seen for his size. Don't think Hoyas have shot, but folks reportedly high on academics. My list: 1) Noel. Count me in with Lic on having a defensive 7' in the middle. Nothing better for winning. 2) Williams. Id lists the reasons above but I wouldn't wait on him. 3) Meeks. We have a lot of bigs but still no real low post play. If I can't have a 7' center, I at least want some easy buckets. Really seems to love GU. 4) Jordan. Talent, though I don't see as big a need. The rest: Like Gathers, but I have some concern about another big who isn't a super defender or low post guy. Not sure I actually want Pollard, who seems like he could be all about getting to the League and brings a crazy family. Parker doesn't seem like he wants GU at all so what's the point?

Gathers has post game; he undersized at 6'6-6'7 though. A beast though. Jordan is a PG for '13, how is that not a need?

Cool on Gathers. For some reason I got the impression that he was more raw.
PG is 2013 is a need. But we've done fine with combos. I'd take Rysheed in an instant, of course. But i don't think we'll suck rolling out Markel, DSR and Jabril handling it either.

ID, I'm just having some fun--and I know what you mean--you don't like soft players or mentally "distracted" players like Wes or Bobo. I've never disliked a player more then Grady Mateen, and he was a Hoya when I was 9 years old, so I was a little angry kid. ;D If you think of soft--Grady was a notch beneath that.

Lists are fun. And all of these guys could be great pieces.
I think Noel could make us a championship contender. He is a beast on defense and exactly what we need right now.
So, my list is: Noel >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wiliams >>> Domingo > Jordan > Gathers > Meeks
Would absolutely take any of them, of course.

Completely forgot Domingo. Obviously he fits in really well with the system and the team. Love shooters.

Nerlens Noel would be the best recruit since Mourning. Several great players have come to GU since Zo, but Noel is that level of impact player that takes a good team and makes them championship contending like Zo did and he doesn't have to be taught to defend--he loves defense. What surprised me was how skilled/talented he is offensively. Needs work on back to basket game-but he's very skilled facing up and BABC runs a lot of halfcourt stuff like Georgetown, where Noel is at high post with ball and makes reads. GREAT, GREAT, GREAT player that I have had #1 since I saw him play--be it last year, this year or next year.
