I hate to say it but this half is really a joke.. We are up 2 points a real grind it out half. We have to take it to these guys. Cin. Ist not a great team, inface they are marginal at best, a fringe post season NIT caliber team. There is so much to play for today for teh hoyas.. I dont get it.. Lets get going... What don't you get? Cincinnati, while ending up on the wrong side of things more often than not, battles until the end in almost every game they play. they stuck with WV at WV until the very last minute and lost to Nova by 4 in their previous game. Don't make statements without any basis for making them...you just sound ignorant. Not a bad half - neither team shot very well...we need to come out in the second half and play smart. Let's take this one Hoyas. I like the balanced scoring.

And I say that as a huge JT3 fan. I just don't get it.

My absolute least favorite thing about JT3's coaching? Never, ever waiting to take the last shot of the first half. It dumbfounds me every time, even though I know it's coming every time. Anyone ever see a team above high school level do this purposefully (as we do)? Well Wright had about a football field of open court to the basket. Can't blame that decision in this instance.

Cincinnati is a tough matchup for Georgetown--they are physical and bang and Hoyas don't respond well to that style of play.
Think it's important to get a win--ugly, undeserved, whatever--just get the W today.
Turnovers that are made by this team are just maddening. Especially considering what time of year it is--when teams should be playing their best/tighten up the mistakes. Those plays where team just throws ball away or can't handle a pass just are frustrating.
Defensively--this offseason there needs to be an approach brought to the table---i.e. PLAY TOUGH DEFENSE. Across the board and a commitment from everyone to change the level of intensity. It's the one part of the game that never has to be effected. If you are/aren't shooting well--you can still play great team defense and often create offense. See it in spurts and for part of a possession and then 1/2 guys breakdown and all hell breaks loose. One thing for a guy to hit a tough shot or be a great player--because great players will score on anyone-but to give the high percentage looks this Hoya team does--it's frustrating. Hoyas being up 3 in a game they should be behind due to Cincinnati missing point blank layups is a break. Just hope they can take advantage of it.

I agree. I think too often teams would rather take the last shot than a good shot. We came up -1 on that possession by dumb luck. Big deal.

We were waiting for last shot, but Chris had a wide open lane open up before him and it was too easy a layup to pass up. There were 7 seconds left -- it isn't like if he had let that go we'd have gotten a better shot. Or even a good shot.

Anyone ever see a team above high school level do this purposefully (as we do)? You have to take a layup--and a guy hitting a 35 footer at buzzer is just one of those things. Team hustled back--nothing wrong with that sequence. Hell they were due considering the bunnies they've missed this half. Well Wright had about a football field of open court to the basket. Can't blame that decision in this instance.

I don't blame any of the players. It's obviously how they're coached. But isn't odd that we're always looking for shooting opportunities with 25 or 20 or 15 seconds left on the clock? We don't modify our offensive sets at all in recognition of the clock. Never seen another team that does that every time. I love our usual offensive philosophy and our usual defensive philosophy. I just don't like our "special teams" (or lack thereof). At least this season we have decent in-bounds plays from underneath the opponent's hoop.

WILLIAMB- Im not ignorant, Im not saying Cin. Is depaul but I think we had to come out withsome more fire.
1. We are playing for a bye in teh BET. 2. We are at home, with freeman back in the starting lineup. Is it too much to ask to come out with some fire.
If it wasnt for Freeman where would be be today. Maybe im wrong and watching it on computer just dull the senses... Im happy we are up, but this game can go either way. Maybe I just dont like out Defense, we never sextend the D or force turnovers as much as we should. I dont know.. whatever..

The point being, Locker, it was 100% the right decision and I'd be shocked to find a coach that would be mad at Wright taking that shot.
It would be the rough equivalent of running out of bounds at the ten yard -- no one between you and the end zone -- with thirty seconds left to avoid giving the opposing team a possession at the half.

I'm not saying our end-of-half strategy never works in individual instances. I'm also not questioning Wright's decision there. It's just something that has bothered me for a long time, and that I've never seen a pro or other college team do. Maybe everyone else is wrong and JT3 is right about this, but I don't think so. Anyhoo, let's kick butt in the second half.

Our offense is to take the highest percentage shot that presents itself. I would rather take a layup with 7 seconds left then a 3 ball, while covered, and high pressure. We just need to realize that if we do take a shot early in the clock, we need to get BACK on D and stop the transition buzzer beater

Freeman is being pretty aggressive. Really wants the ball. I like it (despite that nasty brick)

I've seen lots of Cincy games. I'm telling ya, if Hoyas get the ball to Greg more (and he scores) they'll begin to panic. Get more than a 7-8 point lead and they'll start hoisting 3's.
Also keep J Vaughn on Gates. If Julian can just bang him consistently he gets frustrated and will begin to foul. I hear Thomas has 4 fouls and that will help. Toyloy is not a scorer. He will hit bunnies but not much else

Can't watch from where I am, but with Thomas w/4 fouls, isn't Cincinnati awfully small?
