The battle for left coast supremacy occurs tonight between a Washington-based team vs a Bay Area college. However it's the 8p (Pacific) start on the Deuce, not this comedy of errors occuring in Berkeley. Go Gaels!

Just wondering - is it only rivalry week because Duke plays Carolina? Because I am not seeing too many other traditional rivalry games going on this week - no moreso than any other week of the conference season.

How far has St. John's fallen?
It's the night to honor the 1985 Final Four team, it's at the Garden, and thers's no competition from the Knicks or the Rangers on TV.
Attendance? 5,748.

ESPN with their great fact checking again...guess the conference realignment has happened already and BC is back in the BE

As if UNC wasn't bad enough Ed Davis broke his wrist in the Duke game out 6 weeks aka until UNC has already lost in the NIT.

That team is always so good offensively and so terrible defensively. Why doesn't Brey hire a defensive coordinator? There's gotta be some assistant coach somewhere that could coach defense to that team, right? Or is it more a function of the type of player he recruits?

It's part the players he tends to recruit -- highly skilled offensively but not usually super-athletes.
But it's also his coaching. I read something somewhere where he spends most of practice on offense all the time. Defense is just as much a team activity -- maybe more, really. Brey just doesn't work on it as much.

That's what I thought too, but Jeff Goodman says "There is no rule that says a team has to be .500 to receive an at-large berth to the NIT. "

Yeah, I wonder if ESPN contracted to get one Pac10 game this year? It would make sense that they would have Washington-Cal since that could have been a matchup between two top 15 teams at the beginning of the season. Oops.
To be fair, notwithstanding all the crappy "rivarly" games, even if rivalry week only meant getting WVU-Pitt on Friday night, I'd be pretty cool with that. For a college basketball fan, love that that game is on tonight.

Like I said, WVU-Pitt on Friday night is about as big as it gets.

That is a big one, for sure, but I doubt this would be "Rivalry Week" if Duke and UNC were not playing as well.

You are right. But, that's fair. That's the biggest rivalry. ESPN probably looked at the calendar, saw that Duke-UNC was wednesday and Pitt-WVU was Friday, concocted "rivalry week" and then put on 8-10 other games on M, T, R and S. I like that they even pulled the PAC10 game this week. ESPN is a pill sometimes, but cant complain too much that they basically show 15 basketball games a week.

I think there is a .500 rule for NIT invites overall, but not a .500 rule for conference play.

Here's to hoping the Oakland Zoo exacts (tasteful) revenge on the Mountaineers tonight. Need to get that 3 seed in the BET!

Here's to hoping the Oakland Zoo exacts (tasteful) revenge on the Mountaineers tonight. Need to get that 3 seed in the BET! Are we sure this is the way to go? While I agree that the 3 seed is a fine and attainable goal, isn't assuring a top 4 seed the most important thing, and if so, is knocking Pitt down another peg preferable? I'm really unsure.
