When talking about the Pitt defense we always talk about how they bump our cutters and based on this I have a question for the board. Throughout the course of the Nova game I noticed that the Nova guards and players seem to purposely run straight at the opponents, sometimes not even towards the ball or the hoop, in hopes to get a blocking call which they most often do. Based off of this, could our guys do the same on our cuts against Pitt? Instead of trying to "run around the bumps" Pitt will invariably throw at us can we look to run into them in hopes of getting the foul call? I know Nova is able to do this because they are so deep and they can absorb any fouls that result against them, but I wanted to see if others thought a strategy like this could work for us against Pitt.

Haven't seen much of Pitt, but if they're a traditional Dixon team then this will be a typical BE conference road game. In short, play steady D, find the good mix on offense between patient and aggressive, and rebound, These are the games that comprise the bulk of our conference schedule, and it'd be a nice tone-setter to snag a win against the top of that class of teams.
Play hungry, play poised. The rest will take care of itself.

Jason Clark and/or Chris Wright need to check Gibbs like they did Hazell...Gibbs tho knows how to read the defense when coming off a screen, when to curl/flare....the kid is a smart player....i hope he isnt in heat check mode for them. The other guy is Gilbert Brown he plays alot of PF for them this year when Nasir Robinson isnt doign well.....whoever is guarding him has to realize he can shoot from the perimeter as well as has driving ability.

I want someone to explain why this game is not on a readily-available channel in the DC area. Gtown-Pitt has consistently been a great game for over a decade (yes, even during the Esherick years, we would play them close and then snatch defeat from the jaws of victory).
I cannot wait for this battle.

One thing that favors us is that Pitt does not have the depth of Nova. A normal team would've been playing with 4 guys with how many fouls we drew on nova. Pitt has 2 legitimately sized big men: McGhee and Taylor. The rest are very undersized 4's. Robinson at 6'5 is their starting PF( someone said he can shoot from the outside, the stats don't bare that out, maybe he did agaisnt louisville where he had a huge game, but he's onl shooting 27% from 3 and 36% from the FT line) Gilbert brown is their back up 4 at 6'6". They do have a 6'8 and 6'7 guy but they don't play a lot.
Pitt's gibbs is their only really good player. We just need to stop gibbs and stop their offensive boards. They don't have a lot of talent, but they play tough, have a system that works, and are well coached. If we play 2 complete halves we win.

Yeah, that falls into the "unavailable" category, unless you have a full sports package or go to a bar.

Yeah, that falls into the "unavailable" category, unless you have a full sports package or go to a bar. Apparently it's not on Full Court either. BTW, I figured a high-powered DC attorney like you would have every sports channel available. ;D

we need to match their intensity from the opening tip. this is another team like marquette and nova where they pressure the ball on defense and crash the offensive boards.

I think you are talking about my post...i wasn't talking about Robinson, was talking about Gilbert Brown And I think you are severely underestimating Brad Wannamaker.

Good News: They don't force a lot of turnovers.
Bad News: They rebound really, really well.
Defensive Key: Stick on Gibbs as well as you stuck on Hazell. The rest of the players are of varying efficiency, but Gibbs has been lights out.

Ah sorry, yeah gilbert can hit an outside shot.
Brad is a great athlete and we're going to have to work hard to keep him out of the lane. He's not a great shooter and has under achieved at pitt. He's been playing a bit better as of late.

Wasn't it Brown who hit some huge shots for them against us last year?
Tough but winnable game if the Hoyas play at a very high level. Yeah, not the end of the world if we lose, but this game is the type of game that might very well make the difference between a good year and a great year for the Hoyas. (Along those same lines... in retrospect, the loss to Marquette is bothering me much more now than right after it happened.)

Yeah, that falls into the "unavailable" category, unless you have a full sports package or go to a bar. Sometime after last season ended, Comcast moved ESPNU to the basic digital package from the sports tier (channel 730). I'm not sure if DirecTV has followed suit, but it is somewhat more available now than it used to be. I'm still mystified as to why the worldwide leader thinks Cincy v. USF is better on ESPN2 than this game.

Sigh...part of the big east contract is that all teams have to be shown on ESPN or ESPN 2 2 times....just happened to pick this week to do it.

I'll have to dig deeper. On edit -- turns out it is available upstairs - but there's a problem with the cable card downstairs and that's why I didn't get it. Thanks for the heads up! And, no, KC, the bigtime lawyers can't afford the deluxe cable package these days .

Is ESPNU part of the normal Time Warner lineup in NYC?
