So...he's transferring to 2008-2009 Georgetown? Does he have to sit out a year, and if so, does that create an infinite time loop?

I always thought the Princeton offense was limiting his ability to display his out of the world athletecism.  I kid..Best of luck to the Nikita. He seems like a well grounded young man. |

Wow. Think we'll be fine, but wow.
Was he really expecting the same playing time that he got last year? Also, can we bring someone else in now so we have one more body to bring in off the bench, just in case?

I wish he had talked to me about this first, Russian to Russian...
Ahem. Too bad. He sees his future being in basketball, so it makes sense to go to a place where he would get more PT, where someone like Izzo, Sead, Amadou, etc. knew they weren't going to be making a career out of the sport. I never like to lose Hoyas, though, especially given that it hits our graduation rate numbers.

Oh man...we better cancel the rest of the season. In fact, cancel the whole program. How will we ever survive without the worst player on the team?
Or we could give his minimal playing time to Hollis, Vee, and Benimon. Good idea, let's do that.

Seeing the likes of Nikita and Omar transfer for PT over the past few months does raise the question of just how lightly regarded a player has to be to be willing to sit at the end of the bench for a major college basketball power while receiving a world class education for free (Izzo and Amadou were walk-ons). It's not that I don't get it or I blame them, I just don't know how GU can ever hope to fill out their roster with scholarship players if this keeps happening. There will never be enough playing time for 13 players to stay happy. |

While not unexpected, there should be a critical eye trained on the failure of this staff to recruit and graduate its recruiting classes. Transfers are no excuse.
This will be covered in depth on the front page of the site tomorrow, so I fully expect complaints from the board as a result.

Agreed Jack. This isn't four and five-star prospects (e.g., Czyz and King from Duke) transferring for lack of playing time. These are borderline high major prospects that Coach takes a flier on...I'd be shocked if JTIII promised Nikita or Omar anything in terms of PT. But it does beg the question of who fits the mold of end-bench scholarship players that are content to fill out a roster, rather than make a meaningful contribution on the court.

Is there enough PT to keep 10 guys happy? 8 guys? Seriously, if we can't keep Nikita onboard, who can we?
Sapp was the only guy from his class to stay, DaJuan the only from his (sort of), and now half of the following class is gone. Basically, the guys who don't start end up leaving.
Going from this trend, we will be lucky if we only lose Sims, Vee, and Benimon...not speculating that they will, just saying that I hope the trend doesn't continue.

I think the others mentioned will all get minutes. I would take fliers on Bigs though vs. wings as I would rather have fouls on a bench that can be used vs. guys like Tad & Nikita who can't fill a role if they aren't shooting.
Other programs also deal with this but I would have thought our late in the game recruits would understand the possibilities and odds and would stay regardless of playing time. Also, the first few classes (thornton, Egerson, Guibunda, etc.) were when the program was at a lower level so I understand those more then I understand the Rivers/Macklin transfers or the Tad/Nikita transfers. Those guys knew the type of program they were coming into and their play at IU & Florida is basically reinforcing who they are as players (both could/would be doing the same thing at Gtown).

How do we compare to most high major programs? I cannot think playing time issues are just a Georgetown problem.
Is JT3 doing something different from other coaches? Is he being too honest or not honest enough up-front? If this trend is not the same for other high majors then there is a reason to press the staff on this issue. It looks bad for sure and has to be a red flag for potential recruits.

Its one thing to miss on guys. Busts or guys not stepping up to the plate happen all the time.
My concern is the sentiment of "well, you understand your minutes will be limited here".
Why are we recruiting players and giving scholarships to guys that can't play at this level?
Especially when the last 2 years or so, depth (quantity and quality) has been a major issue with our team.

Anyone who helps us beat Syracuse (and takes out an Orangeboy in the process) will always have a spot in my Hoya heart. This unfortunately will be an early Christmas present to the haters (yeah Strummer, I'm looking at you), but we should still wish him well wherever he lands.

I agree, this is a problem, which is why I am hoping players like Sims, Benimon, Sanford, etc. will understand their role, develop into great four year players, and of course, graduate.
This transfer obviously won't hurt as much as Rivers, Macklin, or Egerson, but it is still not good for the program. Transfers every once in a while are inevitable, but we see them far too often. I can't help but look at our freshmen and sophomores every year, and wonder/hope that they will be with us for four years. I hope this problem will be stopped, and that we can go one off-season (and in-season) without a transfer sometime soon.
And one last note on Nikita: his best moment was definitely the Syracuse home game last year, where he came off the bench to hit two quick threes, chase down a loose ball, and spark us to a blowout victory.

I'd love to see some stats on how we compare with transfer rates. What are we doing that is causing players to stay two seasons and bounce? This is definitely the continuation of a really concerning trend.
