Losing out on kids you should land is a referendum on the state of the program and what people outside the program think of you. I agree on some level, but perception of the program is OBVIOUSLY only one factor in a recruit's decision. There are obviously a whole bunch of factors in play: -- How well the program is doing. -- How much a recruit likes the school (campus, visiting, future teammates etc.) -- How much a recruit believes a given basketball philosophy will suit or not suit his strengths -- How much a recruit will likely get to contribute (and when) -- Potential academic workload (why not go to Memphis and do nothing?) -- Proximity to home (and any preference about distance) -- Secret side deals cut (let's not pretend these don't exist) The list goes on and on and on. Choosing a college is always based on a number of nebulous factors in addition to more concrete ones. We don't need to panic if we lose a local recruiting battle, or a bunch. We need to panic if and when the next class enrolls and there isn't enough (or high enough quality) talent to sustain the team. And that hasn't happened yet.

What 90% of kids actually base their college decision on:
- Comfort level with the coaching staff - Perceived playing time - Proximity to home - How good the program is
With the third one sometimes being unimportant or even working against you, and the fourth less determinate between two programs and more of a "who's in the game?" Why did Greg Monroe come to GU? The coaching staff.
Yes, there are tons of other potential factors. But they pale in comparison to how the player likes and relates to the staff. And nearly every recruit wants a situation where they will have the chance to play.
He likes GU. Maybe not as much as someone else. We'll see.

I hope Moses already has his mind made up about where he wants to go and will let JTIII know this today .. I'm sure both parties remain in contact. JTII and III need to get it done ASAP.
Moses may or may not end-up a Hoya , but your right Avantguard .. it won't be because of our lack of effort on the recruiting trail. I can imagine certain posters who will cry bloody murder and point fingers if he does happen to go in another direction .. smh .. so predictable!
We can only hope to land certain players .. In college recruiting .. there's no such thing as "LOCKS" and "Kids you should Land" How many times must this be stated. You can promise or give the kid the world - but at the end of the day there are so many different factors that come into play(I refuse to go into this again). YOU WIN SOME YOU LOSE SOME. How many local elite players left the area and hardly mentioned the HOYAS.. there are things left out of the recruiting game that fans like us will never know about.
Like I said and I'm sure everyone else is aware of this .. I do know what helps a ton in recruiting .. WINNING! It's not to late to wake-up and put a nice run together Starting with Cinn .. we owe them!

DOUBLE PLAY (From Rivals)
DOUBLE PLAY?
"Georgetown and 2012 prospect Jordan Goodman are in the process of solidifying a commitment.
. . .
Goodman is a 6-foot-8 power forward from Temple Hills (Md.) Progressive Christian. As important as Goodman's commitment is to the Hoyas, it might be more important in the recruitment of 2010 post player Moses Abraham.
Abraham still has plans to visit Seton Hall this week and Indiana this Saturday, but Goodman to Georgetown likely signals Abraham to Georgetown.
"It will be hard to say no to Georgetown," said Abraham's guardian and mentor Joe Boncore. "He and Jordan are teammates and good friends. They would love to play together in college. Plus, me and Jordan's dad are great friends, so this could be a great situation for all of us."

Anybody care to compare Moses with Yarou at Nova? If they're similar, no thanks. Yarou will be a four-year stiff in the Big East, especially playing there.

Yarou missed half the season with Hepatitis. I think he gets a pass for having a so-so freshman year. He hasn't been horrible at all, and has gotten better as the year went on. No, he can't guard Greg Monroe, but not many can.
That said, my sense is that Moses is a better run and jump athlete, but is not as polished on the offensive end (and yes, I know Yarou isn't exactly Tim Duncan down there). Moses seems like a kid with a lot of natural ability, good size, good attitude, and a good motor. He can help us early and hopefully get even better.

Here's a Clip of Moses (sorry if it's been posted already) - along with a bunch of other Hoya prospects (Goodman, Hopkins, ect.. it's from some MD. site - apparently) .. work in progress indeed - but I see the potential. He is still learning the game. As for Yarou the 23 yr old (jk)vs. Moses .... I agree with what NYC said. www.testudotimes.com/2010/1/26/1268802/early-2011-maryland-basketball

Nothing personal Dhall, but I think Yarou will make you eat those words in time. He's just now learning how to play at the Big East level. By the time he's a senior I think he's in the mix for all-conference. As for Moses, not too similar really. Yarou is a burly, physical type. Moses is more of a run and jump type. Some have compared him to Pat Jr., probably the closest Hoya comparison. Could see him playing that role after a few years in the system.

nyc you're correct. Mouph has a much better offensive game; Moses is the better run/jump athlete. Mouph's face up game is actually deadly and will be more so once he gets comfortable. Hoyas missed on him, imo. He is a finesse big in a banger's body. Watch for him next year.

So does anyone have an update on Moses? Wasn't he supposed to commit this weekend -- according to his... rep?

His list is all large state schools plus Georgetown and Seton Hall. I don't think that bodes well for us.

I noticed the other kid in that link had de-committed from UConn, Cleveland Melvin, he wanted to be a wing and is athletic. Is he possibility for the Hoyas?

It bodes very well for us - Georgetown is a clearly different choice than all the others - we stand alone if that's the way he chooses to go - if he wants the "big school" atmosphere - we have no chance anyway.
