Nothing solid, but my impression is that JT's biggest focus is on playing strong half-court defense (whether man or zone), and that the press makes it more difficult to get into strong defensive position if/when the press is broken. Also, we have to remember that there's only a limited amount of practice time available. My guess is that JT3 prefers to use it to focus on the half court defense and the offense, and that he doesn't want spend time putting in a token press that isn't going to be practiced enough to be effective against Big East teams.

Seriously the last -- because in the rest of the pre-conference schedule, Harvard is looking like a legitimate mid/low-major contender, and we know from experience what ODU can do!

My guess is that JT3 prefers to use it to focus on the half court defense and the offense, and that he doesn't want spend time putting in a token press that isn't going to be practiced enough to be effective against Big East teams. I'm sorry - but this is the dumbest excuse ever. First - I'm not sure there is something as a token press without reason. THere are 2 basic types of press I believe. 1 "token press"- apply some pressure to burn some time off the clock for the opposing offense. Usually commentators will refer to this as a "token" press. But it can be used against "high scoring teams" to reduce the number of posessions / time on the shot clock. This doesn't really leave your half court defense lacking at all - as your players aren't really going to steals. 2 - trapping, aggressive press: call it whatever you want - but its meant to force turn overs. Using it has a lot of risks and rewards. just look at Pop's defenses. I bring it up for two reasons: I think some type of traping press could be empoyed against teams in the big east play and possibly help us. At the very least a "token" press would slow the game down against some high scoring teams we play. Secondly and perhaps more importantly - as we have come to realize the last few years teams LOVE to press us. so if we had one of our own it would give the guys something to practive against. Okay - last thing. We don't have enough time? really? ignore for a min that many other teams manage to find time to put a press in (like every team we play). ignore that these guys have probably learned a press or two before arriving at school. They guys litterally can practice all year long. Yes they have school and what not and there are rules on what coaches can do with them out of season and which coaches are around when the team "gets to gether"...but lets be honest here there is enough time to install a press. (also - the guys aren't dummy's either. they are g town student athletes .... don't we think they can pick up a little press?)

In case anyone missed it, be sure to check out Barker's piece on Julian Vaughan that Dan linked in the Articles thread. Good insights into how thoroughly Julian needed to change his game to fit GU's needs, and he is accomplishing that. Very positive.

I wanna see Greg go right at least 4 times, Henry not shoot any 3's, and chris dunk rather than lay it up on a breakaway

I give a lot of credit to Julian, and I was one of his detractors. It takes a lot to rework your game over a summer when you've been doing the same thing for years on the court. If only he could keep his old FT shooting, though. That was a good part of his game.
