How is it hating to say Jeter doesn't deserve Sportsman of the Year?
He had a great year, but he wasn't the best player in baseball. He wasn't the best player on his team, either.
The "he inspired his team to greatness because he's such a good guy" is ludicrous, for a variety of reasons. The elegance and classy quote is hysterical in terms of this award.
Becoming the all-time Yankees hit leader isn't all that impressive, either. No Yankee has 3,000 hits -- so it is like becoming the all-time leading passer for the Bears or something. Great franchise, but that record, while nice, isn't historic for the sport. Sorry.
It would be like someone becoming the all-time leading passer for the Bears -- great franchise, great accomplishment, but hardly definitive for sports in general.
--------
Jimmie Johnson and his team won a fourth straight title, something that has never been done in his sport. This isn't hard. And I hate NASCAR.

This decision should have been made in 9.58 seconds, or at most 19.19 seconds...

I wear my Yankee hatred on my sleeve, but I'm willing to accept this as a career award for Jeter in a year where there was no real standout. I think Federer would have been a better career choice, but Jeter is acceptable. I also noted that Jeter's charitable work was cited, so good for that. I'm not sure, though, why Ambassador quoted my post when making his argument, since I was only rejecting Jeter as the American League Hank Aaron award winner, which is truly ludicrous.
