i think the color should be bolder. blue would look good over the purple seats. it would give the appearance of a sellout at verizon. We have this discussion every year. And as I always do, I say stick with the gray. It's become something of a tradition, going on its 6th year. Students can wear shirts from past years and still fit in with the rest of the section. There is unity where pretty much everyone in the student section is wearing the same color, and the same shirt. If we switched to a blue shirt, I guarantee you that half the students would show up wearing their old gray shirts, and the other half the new blue ones, and everything would look muddled. Gray is distinctive - other student sections have blue or white shirts, but I think we're the only student section in the country that has gray. It matches our team's jersey color, and dammit, I just think it looks cool, people wearing the shirt in masses. I am in favor of making changes to the design, because yes, the quote thing is kind of played out. However, I think the Georgetown logo and the phrase "We Are Georgetown" should always be on it, and, as long as III is coach, that "III" should be displayed somewhere prominently on it too. However, it doesn't sound like any major changes will be made this year. Which is actually fine with me. My general attitude: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Plenty of other things in the world to worry about.

Didn't someone last year have an idea that went along the lines of "No Quote / Just Business"?

Didn't someone last year have an idea that went along the lines of "No Quote / Just Business"? Yeah that was my other idea last year -- "No Slogan. Just Business."

I was in favor of that last year and I still am. But anything is better than swagga. SO glad that didn't win for SO many reasons.

I like the "no slogan" thing ... but what about two years from now, when we have a slogan again!

I think you meant alea iacta est, lic, with an e.
Unless we're talking about casting "others" -- namely Syracuse players -- all around the court.
;D
( If we're going with Latin phrases, I prefer "Caveat Barbari!!!" )

Some interesting ideas here. I think #2 and #3 are the true options with the others being tired or not particular to our program. At least in the first instance, the slogan on the back was particular to our program in that the original sources were in the GU community, and the quote somehow related to our season or tradition. The "Some Have Forgotten" shirt is the archetype of this in my mind, but no doubt the "Respect Is Back" and "100 Years" shirts rank up there closely. All, I think, received local and/or national media coverage. They were fresh, and no other program had something like that. Unfortunately, I do not have last year's shirt to recall how it fits in here.
Perhaps this is not to be valued now, but I disagree. Absent it, I am not sure you get the same kind of hype/good feelings or whatever as you do without it. You certainly don't get the involvement/interest of the alumni community to the same degree.
In that sense, I view option #5 as deficient in that it could apply as much to GU students as to SHU basketball. We are happy with our tradition, but "fear your future" might be in the minds of the SFS'er upset by competition for jobs, the MSBer upset about the collapse of Wall Street, and the like. Outside of this, it is a rhetorical retread of the "Respect Is Back" shirt.
#1 and #4 get there in terms of being Georgetown-related, but you could substitute Binghamton, SHU, WG, or whatever, and the shirts would not gain or lose meaning.
#2 at least gets to the history of the t-shirt and related slogan-fatigue. No other college/university, to my knowledge, can claim t-shirt sloganeering like we can. That has to count for something, even as we decline to have a new substantive slogan.
#3 is one that is in the spirit of the original shirts, as I believe the underlying source is Father Healy, quoted from the GU hoops DVD. I have to admit that this is an underappreciated quote source, so kudos to whomever came up with it in this year of admittedly few obvious options.*
Anyway, kudos to HB on these options, which I do think are reasonably good and appropriate under the circumstances. I just hope #2 or #3 carries the day and will vote accordingly.**
My $.02.
* In fairness, I do not recall any similar debate when the original shirt was made as to the slogan. It was fairly self-evident after the April 2004 press conference. However, it did take a little while to dicker over the components of the shirt, color (i.e. whether to design a gray or blue shirt and related interests), and the like given that we were working from the pre-2004 model, which included traditionally IBHB or a simple blue shirt with "HOYAS" across the chest. In that sense, the issue was more as to whether to include a slogan or not rather than what it should have been.
**Alumni may still have voting capabilities with their old NetID's. I have successfully logged on under what I had thought was an inactive NetID user/password.

"#3 is one that is in the spirit of the original shirts, as I believe the underlying source is Father Healy"
You are correct, it was also submitted last year but didn't crack the top 5

I actually like #5. I think SPH suggested a similar quote on the Hoya Blue board, but using "our and your" instead of the makes a big difference in my opinion. It also contains the same confident attitude displayed in the first two shirts. I think the No Slogan one is the worst, if we're gonna say that lets just not have a slogan. "No Slogan, Just Business" is a slogan, and a very mediocre one at that. Just one man's opinion though.

I don't like #3 at all; it sounds cheesy to me. Maybe if I were familiar with the Father Healy video I'd feel differently, but it seems like something that would be in a melodramatic speech in a sports movie. I voted for #4.
More than anything, I'm happy about the fact that my NetID still works (and I'm pretty sure it still does for Blackboard, Access+, etc.).

I also went #4, though I don't think any will seem as good to me until we figure out a way to incorporate something inspirational that comes from the program itself (preferably the coach). Maybe we can't wait until Midnight Madness to do this, but still...some of these seem really empty compared to the bold statements III dropped early on in his tenure.

Nice breakdown, Ambassador. If I might elaborate on the inspiration behind #2:
It's about more than slogan fatigue.
It's about getting beyond some of the hype that (rightfully) followed the successes of 2006-2008 and getting back to the basics that make the Hoyas the Hoyas: hard work, smarts & savvy, and winning without flashy accoutrements or contrived pep. It's about showing up every day, being committed to getting it done, and doing it professionally with class, grit, determination, and grace; in short, the best parts of "business".
It's also about honoring the unique contribution HoyaBlue, the student/young alum sections, and the general zeitgeist of Hoya spirit have put into the WAG shirts these last few years.
To me, that's the passion, the pride, and the power of Hoya basketball under JTIII. That's what "NO SLOGAN. JUST BUSINESS." means to me.

I'll add one more in #2's favor, although it may be tortured, at best... JT3 frequently says "If we take care of business..." or "We just need to go about our business..." It seems to be in that JT3 PR Playbook that has guided him well for the most part, at the occasional expense of originality.
One might argue that the shirt at least is an oblique reference to this kind of approach/focus, perhaps better elucidated in C2C's post.

I'm pretty sure Now They Know/Here We Come in 07-08 was a III quote from Midnight Madness, so not sure why we couldn't wait again... Also, I worry about not enough people realizing that #3 is a Fr. Healy quote...without that context, it is kind of odd. I kinda like #5...it's a throwback to the tone of the originals, which we've gotten away from the last few years...
