It's not true that every player has to be a great shooter in this offense. We need one or two 3-point threats on the floor, but not five. The 2007 team did not have a full team of great shooters. Sapp and Ewing did not have to look to score or even take all that many shots. They had to run the offense through Jeff and Jon and Roy and play off of the defensive reaction to them. They understood that it was not their job to take difficult or contested shots. They need to make a layup, make the occasional wide-open jumper, drive when the lane was left open to keep the defense honest, but otherwise they were to cut, pass, screen, keep the ball moving, don't turn it over. Rivers' problem was not the offense. His problem was that he was not going to start ahead of Chris Wright. In every program, there are players every year who do not have as much success as they expected. At Georgetown, the offense is the handy excuse for players who do not want to accept any responsibility for their weaknesses. The truth is that the offense is adaptable to each player's skills. You don't have to be a 3-point shooter to thrive in the offense, but you do have to enough offensive skills of some kind that teams have to guard you. It's true here because 5 guys have to be able to score at all times and do so efficiently. But that's not even close to true on many teams. Two of the top 5 scorers on Michigan State shot under 40% from the floor. Why did they make the national final? In a word: rebounding. In two: rebounding, defense. If you watch Big Ten basketball, first the judge should have given you community service instead and had some mercy. Second, it's perfect for Rivers. He's the perfect guard for a team that puts up 52-47 eyesores occasionally interrupted by a running affair that's mildly entertaining. Our offense isn't adaptable to a Rivers at all. As SF points out, so what? Roy Williams doesn't recruit a kid and say "You know, let's slow it down for him this year." But why should he? It's his call. And a kid who can't run and gun is screwed in that system.

it wasnt jeremiah who made the quote, so he doesnt deserve any heat. if you are gonna bash him it would be more appropriate to post on hoyaballa's board. i hear they have a good thing going over there with balla and jyd providing all the posts. btw whats the over/under date on the death of that club???

No chance, that board is great and doing exactly what it was intended to do. Truth is, most of us on this board follow that board including you and Dan (even if we don't post). In fact when balla and JYD use to post on this board, it was basically just them and a few others doing all the posting in Hoyatalk recruiting section. So you are only kidding yourself.

This "in" type of clique mentality really rubs me the wrong way. Fortunately, I've never been one to really give the proverbial rat's ass about what opinions other people fabricate on their own to begin with.
On Edit: This comment is directed to the "battle of the boards," to coin a phrase.

Without singling out anyone in particular -- not even SF -- it looks to me that some of you are quite bitter for some reason. And if there's one program that has had to deal with more than its share of transfers, it would certainly be Florida, not G'town. Yes, I know we have Macklin as well as Rivers' little brother (hopefully) ... but still, the point is I see a lot of animosity directed to Jeremiah. As embarrassed as some of my fellow Gators make me sometimes, I don't remember similar venom directed at any of our transfers -- not even Christian Drejer, who left in the middle of the friggin' conference season for pro ball in Europe !!! Seriously, is there more to this J Rivers story that I should know? I mean, it didn't work out. Maybe he wasn't as good as people hoped. Maybe he didn't live up to the "Rivers" expectations. Maybe he just didn't like the system as much as he thought he would. Maybe he just thought that it was in everyone's best interests to move on. I don't know. But I do think that there is far more venom hurled at him than I have seen justified.

That still doesn't answer the question of why you were poking around over there in the first place. Considering your contempt for balla I would have thought you would have kept your eyeballs away from that site. That says something about your obsession and compulsive behaviour. And regardless of what you think of the site at least balla and crew kept didn't resort to a chicken-little sky is falling approach like you did regarding the program. So get over it, get over yourself and move on. Almost all those who visit Hoyaballa don't talk about folks on HT or HR at all after the first initial days. You, though, still can't let anything go after all these weeks. That's absurd. But by all means keep reading our "useless" posts regarding summer viewing. Because I know, despite what you're saying, you just can't help yourself. By the way as someone who posts on all three Hoya forums now, I can say that the inactivity is common at all locations. Hell, HoyaTalk has hundreds of more registered posters so relatively speakiing its amount of output is in a way worse than HoyaBalla's. Its been that type of slow summer I'm afraid. Not even KL did much to really pick up interest regarding Hoya hoops.

I agree with MCI. I haven't posted there, but I do check it, albeit less frequently than here. Nothing is being discussed on either board. What's the real issue with having two separate boards? If you feel personally rejected by them setting up a new board, then I'm sorry. But other than that, I can't really see a reason that you're still so concerned about a board that you aren't a part of, aren't mentioned on, and disagree with the general purpose of. I don't agree with stuff on FoxNews, so I don't watch it. I suggest you do the same.

Touched a nerve? No, you just get on folks' nerves. Even though I've disagreed with balla at times and JYD at least I can say they actually contributed something to HT when they were posting on this forum. You, sir, have never contributed anything except your gloom and doom opinions, your shots at III and your willingness at times to jump into the middle of fights that don't involve you. For once man up and leave it alone. Stop worrying about HoyaBalla and other things not of your concern.

You didn't touch a nerve. I'm just sick of hearing about it. I want to come to this board to hear about our team, not to hear about some little internet talk board drama. I want you to let it go, not because I'm defensive about them, but because I really don't want to hear about it anymore. If you want to talk about it so bad, go to the other board and start your own thread.

It's hard to believe, but the Pope has reached a new level of idiocy on this thread. Humble pie? Fine, keep deluding yourself. While things have been fairly quiet all around on the recruiting front, there is currently much more valuable information being provided on balla's board than there is here. And that's both sad and unfortunate. So I hope you are pleased with yourself. And I ain't balla or graeagle.

Dunno. Guess I thought I'd give it the old college try with a reasoned request, but point taken.
