Below are my thoughts from yesterday (I only saw the first two games). By the way, how come nobody gave props to Tyler Crawford for playing with Tombs? He's as fit as ever with a long range three. I wish the guy the best.
Austin: He looked about the same as last year to me - not any quicker or slimmer. Against that lousy excuse of an opponent he dominated and scored both inside and out (with contested jumpers) with ease. However, like last year, his quickness and jumping ability still are not at a point where he will be able to score at will. A lot of the tricky lay-ups he finished last night will be blocked or altered when he plays Big East caliber big men. And that's unfortunate since he finishes with the best of them when he gets the shot off cleanly.
Vee: He went 0-4 in the few minutes that he played in the 1st half (after coming in late). However, in the 2nd half he was much better, hitting pull-up jumpers and contested lay-ups. What I really liked was that he has a nose for the ball and was trying to get offensive and defensive rebounds alike. His best play was grabbing a defensive board and driving end to end for a layup.
Benimon: He's a big guy who has the strength to bang day one in the Big East. Additionally, he's quick when he gets going. The play of the game for him was sprinting down on defense and pinning an opponent's fast break lay-up against the backboard. It was called a goaltend, but it was great to see the hustle. Benimon also has a nice face-up crossover move that he used well against big men to get lay-up attempts. What I didn't see were his jumping ability - I have the feeling he can't elevate that high which means he may not always be able to get his shot off.
Hollis: I was very impressed with him. From the alley-oop at the start to his great range, he seems to have a lot of great tools and athletic ability. He wasn't as aggressive as he could have been and still is not too strong, but hopefully he continues to add muscle in the off-season. Overall, I think he'll be a starter.
I didn't see the last game, so I don't have anything on Clark or Sims.

see i disagree i think HT guarded Kevin Thompson pretty well inside last night, and competed on the boards. I think he can play some "4" in a line-up. I wouldnt say start that way but we can play that way for extended stretches. i mean look at the 4's in the BE. they aren't huge post monsters. you saying Hollis cant guard, the "Devin ebanks, gavin edwards, antiono pena, or dante taylors of the world?? i think he can inside for a bit, i mean guys like Rick jackson and terrence jennings... it isnt smart but i wouldnt say no to that either. if we are using our skill advantage on the other end. I still think the starting line-up we talked about is still the best line-up right now. Henry didnt play terrible, just didnt cmpete enough for me. tonight should be intersting since he is playing his former hs teammate Dino Gregory of maryland. Kevin Thompson isn't near BE caliber....also most of the guys you talked about are 3's....look Hollis is a 3...i could even see him playing some 2 if you want to get into it but Hollis is not a PF end of story! While we might see JTIII throwing in some 3 guard lineups against smaller teams, he just isn't a PF...he's going to be a stud...just not in a PF position!

Can someone compare a taller iteration of Ashanti Cook with Vee Sanford? Just trying to get a feel for his game. Nah wouldnt compare those too. I think finiding a G'town comparsion to Vee will be hard......if you pressed me into someone he gets in the lane like Charles Smith did, just plays at a pace and then jets by people, and knows how to finish against stronger and bigger guys. edit:think of a Tony parker type game.....not comparing to Tony just saying that kind of ability to get into crevices and finish plays. Thanks, dense. I like what I read about Vee in any event. It sounds like he'll help us to compress our offense in the half court if needed. We've been desperate for consistent mid-range play.

i agree with dense that hollis could play forward in the big east and hole his own even the biggger forward but hope hes wright about henry having a bad dayAND I LOVE OH HENRY but if he keeps that up no nose for the ball nod no boxing out.. not finishing plays he played a very bad game hopefully to get it outa his system cause we need some bigs ie julian adn henry to step up THAT will be the key to this team other stuff seems in place NEED BIGS AND MEANESS FOR THE BIG EAST AND GREG WILL BE FINE BUT NEED OH HENRY AND JULIAN.. thats the story i see but felt prettygood aboutthe newbies hollis and vee but didnot see the tough guy in the other frosh that others saw looked skinny and not so strong did not dominate at all on the boards or on d HOPE thats there but after one game and just one game i admit i didnot seeit but DID see a potential roy in the big east on the court and it wasnt our beloved roy it was a potental ROY YES as i predicted during the kenner league when mr. jeff green came depsite the other md guy who he tied for roy in the big easy go hoyas go hollis go everyone theyre playing and MAYBE with some semblance of a schedule yup its summer and its kenner loved to get the yelling out last nite good for the soul.... aggression releaser yup go hoyas

The notion of hollis at the four in the big east is funny....dajuan played the four at times because he had the body to play there...hollis doesn't...there's a big difference between hollis and dajuan....dajuan's a 3-4....hollis is a 2-3

Wright Freeman Thompson Sims Monroe
No way Vaughn starts because otherwise there would be no big to sub in for Monroe. You never saw them play together last year and you may only see them play a little bit together this year. As far as Hollis playing 4, someone has to log minutes at the 4 and 5. If Hollis never plays there then we have Monroe, Sims, Vaughn and Nikita, Benimon to split 80 minutes - we might see Hollis there for a few minutes per game, although I'd rather have another big since we got killed on the glass last year while playing a small lineup.
haha thanks hoyabinx im glad i could make you laugh

Obv Kevin Thompson isnt BE caliber, but he is as big as those guys and he didnt dominate Hollis in the paint.
The guys i named are NBA 3's but BE 4's...Devin ebanks played the 4 last year WVU starting frountcout was Ebanks, Butler and wellington Smith, all 6-7 6-8 guys...Gavin Edwards a 3??? he plays 5 sometimes for Uconn. antiono Pena a 3??? he plays 5 for Villanova sometimes. So I dotn know what you ar talking about. I didnt say by that statement that yeah put him at the 4 all the time when we got other options, just that it is an option. I saw a kid who has the length and the willingness to bang to maybe be down there in a small line-up. Dujuan struggled cause he didnt play great D, and didnt like to bang on defense. Hollis seems more like he wants to compete and battle if he is called on. Kevin Thompson of Morgan State has him by at least 50 pounds and he didnt bully him when he got it in the post and had trouble scoring over Hollis's length. You took my statement as "Yeah lets play hollis at the 4 all the time against everyone in the BE" Didnt say that. Just that we can be versatile cause i think he can play down there and will go to the glass to board.
